Are there limitations to the applicability of the Hatch Act? Eg, does it only apply to federal-level elections? Are state level elections covered as well? City and county?

    Thanks in advance!

Yes, it applies to state and local elections. It applies to any partisan elections; that is any in which candidates are identified as Republican, Democrat, etc.

Some of us are in a special Hatch Act category that further restricts activites.

Check with your General Counsel or other representative at work. There is much you can do, like sending emails, making phone calls, visiting your representatives and testifying in committee hearings.

Reviving this teeny necro-thread because it has "Hatch Act" in the title, and Acting Assistant Attorney General for Administration Jolene Ann Lauria just issued the typical pre-election-cycle reminder.

However, Attorney General Merrick Garland issued a follow-up, which adds some "new and improved" restrictions which, imho, are pretty heavy-handed. Denizens of the Book of Faeces are gushing:
    - Republicans' "free speech" outrage to follow for certain...
    - This is what integrity looks like
    - This sounds like they are charging Trump to me.
    - We'll know when they're going to arrest trump, you'll see large numbers of national guard troops surrounding federal and state buildings across the country, without explanation.
    - The Integrity of the DOJ is back!!!
    - He is instructing the crew to standby for heavy seas... it looks like we're heading into stormy weather... gotta go thru it to get to clear skies.

And then there's the meme photo at the bottom of this post that I really can't get my head wrapped around. [outer space] Aliens attacking, and Garland is defending a burned-out Shelby Mustang on the White House lawn? (I will admit, the chimp with the bow tie and AK looks rather dapper.)

I think the Hatch Act is used only in a one-sided manner to further the other side’s political agenda.

Have a Hillary poster and you’re ok. Mention Trump in passing and it’s a Hatch Act problem.

It is a matter of what gets reported. My awareness of my agency's hatch act actions, it is has been fairly evenly spread against people pushing violations for both political parties. It hasn't "favored" just going after conservatives.

That said, the last administration effectively ignored it for any appointed official despite dozens of referrals.
