    Hi All,

I‘m trying to have the bead front sight of my 1851 changed out. I think it’s only pressed in but I don’t want to mess it up. Do you all have a recommendation for a reasonable gunsmith?

It is pressed in and usually comes out with a little twisting. The best tool is a pair of nippers like these.

Home depot also sells them. Just tape the barrel so you don't scratch it and grab and twist with the nippers. I usually cut a dovetail on 1851 guns and put a Dixie Remington sight in it. It makes shooting fun when you can see the sights.

problem solved. now no one recommend him gunsmiths so we force him to do it himself LOL. Honestly try YouTubing it...if you're still fearful i'm sure people here will give you good recommendations.

Against King Chickens advice on providing gunsmith recommendations and do it yourself, I’ll recommend Scott’s Gunsmithing in Glen Burnie. I took a 10/22 there to have them drive out a front site that was kicking my ass. The younger smith there had it out in like 2 minutes. Reasonable fee.
