Hello all. I finally received my CCW permit for MD a few days ago. I am a little confused on some of MD law and was hoping someone can clarify them for me.

    1. Am I allowed to carry inside a casino, bank , county park. I frequent these places a lot and am not sure as what the law is. If I am not allowed to carry is it legal to leave your firearm in your car. If so does it have to be loaded, unloaded, locked in a box?

    2. The MD state website says it is illegal to carry on state highways. If I am carrying on me while driving on I-95 will I be arrested?

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

This makes no sense. Perhaps they mean if walking or hitchhiking? Do you have the link?

Having the permit exempts you from several laws. Reading the law and look for where these exemptions are. There are hundreds of posts in this forum regarding these issues.

As I see you are new, I'll say what I see most people saying (not legal advice):

Assuming you have no restrictions on the back (correct???):

You can carry in most places, the bank, driving around, etc. There are a few actual prohibited places like schools, government property, court house, etc. The businesses with signs prohibiting are not legal statues, so if someone sees you carrying (assuming you're not doing anything wrong), all they can do is ask you to leave. Most of us don't go where we are not welcome (anywhere there's a 'no guns' sign). Some people are nice enough to tell the businesses management why they are losing business, and how no gun zones create a target of opportunity. They will retort that it's a policy to prevent being sued, and that their insurance company insists. It's all BS, just a game to them. Others will say it's for their customers safety and that people are afraid when they see a gun. Still others do not want their employees armed. There's a lot to this debate, let me assure you when all is brought to light, it all boils down to two real issues, public safety and Liberty. We (safe responsible gun owners) are right, they are wrong. Don't encourage them by giving them your money. Vote.

About car storage: the law only tells you what you can't do. You won't find it anywhere saying you can leave your gun in your car. For those without a permit (in Maryland), they can't generally even drive around with a gun in their car, unless they are going to one or more of a list of authorized places (like a gun shop, gunsmith, police station, shooting event, etc). And when they transport it must be 'unloaded' and in an enclosed case or holster (handguns only), long guns need only to be unloaded. Some will say it's unsafe to leave it in your car, but as you ask what do you do when you get to the post office? Legally you can't carry it in, and it could be stolen from your car, even if you lock it in a metal box chained inside your car; so what to do?

It's also a bad idea to say publicly details like this because a 'bad guy' could exploit your TTP (knowing what you routinely do). So don't talk about this kind of thing online. If you call and ask the police, you will get several different answers; and there are a (very) few, that will try to arrest you.

That's the bad news. The good news is there are very few places where there are metal detectors, concealed means - concealed, a strong metal box securely chained inside your car is much more secure than sticking it under your seat, and we don't ask one another who's armed, it's kinda rude to even ask.

When you got your permit, didn't you have to go through some training? 16 hours of specific concealed carry training and this basic topic was never discussed?
