    It's +1 Dem member in the House of Reps. They're counting national Dem votes in the House, without regard for representation of the Eastern Shore.

    Western Maryland and the shore are then political cannon fodder. History has shown that this is clear grounds for western Maryland and the shore to secede.

    By population, registration ratio, and geography, a representative distribution of MD in congress would be about 2 republicans and 6 democrats.... but the game was fixed to be 1 and 7... now it will be 0 and 8.
    This! :thumbsup: 2 republicans (the shore and western Maryland) out of 8 seems fair to me.

    I can see Western MD becoming part of West Virginia but where is the Eastern shore supposed to go? Delaware just seems like more of the same. Virginia isn't a lost cause yet, but it does keep teetering on the brink of becoming another Maryland.

    First of all, Liberals in the Maryland government would never allow either group of tax payers to leave the state. Second, Virginia would never allow the Eastern Shore to tip the balance of voters deeper into the red by joining Virginia.

    Or—hear me out on this—we could have congressional districts that fairly represent actual regions/counties/etc, let people vote, and have self-determination and representative democracy.

    If somebody is fine with “their” side doing something but not with the ”other” side doing something, I’d argue that selfishness is their main ethos, not a belief that we all have the right to Liberty and self-determination in our elected representatives.

    Partisan gerrymanders disenfranchise voters, and that should make everyone mad regardless of who those disenfranchised Americans may vote for.
    I like it. Maidenhead grid squares. Population determines how many reps in that grid.

    Very simple, can't be gerrymandering. No maps to draw.

    Someone floated an idea a number of years ago on this board whereas Western Maryland and the shore secede as a contiguous parcel of land in sort of a horseshoe shape parcel. Basically, the true "free state" would get skinny north of Baltimore, include the Susky flats, and would join the shore. Here's the tricky part: Baltimore County would have to be part of it. Maybe someone here can re-post the proposed map of Maryland and the People's DemocRATic Republik of Marylandistan.

    If they can draw a "connection" between the eastern shore and Annapolis 'cuz there's a bridge where no one lives, Western Maryland can connect to the Easern Shore via a "connection" that runs down the middle of the Potomac and across the Bay ... also where no one lives (but it's still in Maryland because the Potomac all belong to us.)

    Let them argue how one is valid but the other is not.

    Simple. The same way that they argue that BLM violence incidents, too numerous to count, are good and encouraged, while the single "January 6th" riot is bad. It's called a double standard.

    At any rate, Lawnchair has vetoed the Dem map. Eventually, this should make it to the Court of Appeals, where Lawnchair has appointed, what, 5 of the 7 judges or something? This isn't over.

    Even if we take at face value all the assertions of democrat/ leftist apologists wrapped in political science geekdom , Maryland Conservatives/ Libertarians don't have moral obligation to screw themselves in Maryland , to atone for purported GOP meaness elsewhere .

    The Governor's proposed map ( from a just barely nominal Republican , who actually hates the larger GOP Party) is a textbook example of compact , contiguous Districts , with meaningful shared interests , while the MGA map exceedes previously imagined levels of blatant disenfranchisement and partisan skull duggery .

    You have to have the general assembly approval to secede and that's never going to happen.

    I'm not suggesting anything, but in 1776, we had to have the British Parliament's approval to secede, yet that DID happen!

    Realignment... pan handle to piedmont goes to WV, Eastern Shore and a spit of VA go with DE to form the new state of Delmarva, and Central region merges with DC to form the new state of Wokeastan. Still 50 states, no major change to congressional balance, and all that is left of MD is a bunch of crab shaped flag stickers. Done and done.

    What the democrats in MD are doing is why we have the 2nd amendment. They're literally doing what tyrants do.
