Well, I got the fever, purchased a new GPSr for no apparent reason (this one: http://www.magellangps.com/en/produ...asp?PRODID=1072 ), and hit the trails. I took my 5 year old son for the first time and he absolutely had a blast. Treasure hunting, as he calls it. The new GPSr is awesome. It replaced a Magellan Meridian Gold, and I have to say that the color screen is a huge improvement. On the grayscale screen, it was hard to tell the difference between a road, a stream, or a topo contour line. With the addition of color it is easy to differentiate between features. I'm in Jacksonville, FL (hell-hole) right now, and there are about 100 caches within 10 miles of my hotel, so I'm about to go log a few.

I have to note that one side benefit of geocaching is that it gives you the opportunity to find publicly accessible lands that you may never have known existed. I found a beautiful area near where I live that I never knew was there. Hundreds of acres of hilly forest and open to deer hunting in season. If only they would allow me to discharge a firearm there during the rest of the year! :mad54: Anyway, if you haven't tried geocaching, do it now. You don't know what you are missing!
