Gear for head boat fishing

If not too late, friend and I want to on a fishing trip before everything closes.

Head boat fishing, 10 hours, what gear do I need. I have an icebox but no wheels. Should I get a collapsible cart, to carry the icebox or get a collapsible hand cart? Do I even need an icebox for fish and food. Can I just do a bucket?

I ll rent a rod, but the biggest unknown is “do I need an icebox” My friend bought a Rovr icebox with rubber wheels and metal handle for $300. He says I should get one as well. 300 DOLLARS THOUGH. lol. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Or just take a $30 cooler if you want your own. You shouldn't need anything else on a head boat except proper clothing.

They will store the fish till you get back. You can clean them or pay to have them cleaned. Dump ice in the cooler and you are gtg.
Sandwich, Snacks, drinks, proper clothing, sun screen.
Bait they supply, tackle should be supplied or rented.

What are you fishing for?

No cart.

Some head boats do not have coolers for the fish some do.
If they do provide a cooler, please leave the empty cooler you plan on taking your fish home in, in your truck and get it when you get back.

99% of boats do not provide ice for you to take your fish home with.
If they do not have a common fish box, most do not provide ice for your fish cooler.

I recommend one 60 quart or smaller.
If you are going with friends consolidate food and drinks in one cooler.

Trying to fish around a cooler obstacle course is a PIA.

Don't be too proud to take advice from the Mate.

Tip the Mate(s) well.

Most are bottom fishing trips.

Ah, went on one of those as a little kid and caught every flounder within reach.. Scheibles I think- was probably 33 years ago. That Captain cried at my great-uncles funeral. Probably lost his best customer.

Went on the angler boat. Got sea sick. But l still caught 6 sea bass keepers and 10??? Small ones I threw back. My friend caught 12 keepers and many throw backs.

Rented a rod, friendly staff and fortunately the people I sat next to was a local older couple who were very friendly people.

Anyone thinking about going, go before the asap, before it ends for the year
