Conservative and Conservation used to be synonymous. Look at who was president when the EPA, OSHA, superfund and other good environmental legislation was passed. Nixon and Reagan. How soon we forget.

Now the only platform seems to be 1-800-cash-now.

With NG prices so low, an extensive "restoration" of the property is not going to happen to the satisfaction of anyone concerned. Should the price necessarily rise, then discussions on restoration can be conducted. As of now, these companies are going to the least possible within the confines of the law or agreement.

You can't have your cake and eat it too....

And please don't lump in "conservatives" with people who have no environmental care or sense. Most conservatives likely want what is best for the environment... However halting major energy projects because some turtles migrate across their path or in the general vicinity, and million dollar multi year studies appear to be warranted... That is what conservatives typically dislike. At least this one, anyway.....

with NG prices so low isn't it bad business to be harvesting it when you could be using the capital to harvest another resource?

granted the natural gas gut is a different business discussion, but the salespeople who pushed it made the sketchy used car sales people seem like saints.

    "Ban fracking!"
"Say NO to the Keystone pipeline!"
"No drilling for oil off OUR coasts!"
    "Ban coal!"

"Why are my gasoline/heating/electric bills so high?! This is robbery!!!"

    - typical liberal idiot.

Gas, Heating and Electric bills are high?

In the US? This is news to me. $2.84 a gallon for diesel this morning, that's a 5 year (at least) low.

I don't disagree. However I think the effort was undertaken with the "hope" that the economy would tick up and demand would rise. This would increase the price, even marginally and make profit margins possible.

Has the economy ticked up? If you believe the unicorn and fairy fantasy land folks, sure. But from my perspective, we are treading water at best. My guess is we are at the cusp of drill/no drill. If the economy was going full bore I don't think we would be having this discussion.

    Not recently.

Price is a component of supply and demand. This economy has tepid demand, and supply has caught up. If this "hope and change" is what the people of the US really want, then I am moving to Russia. At least they take their nationality seriously.

natural gas is so cheap only because of the shear quantity of it available. supply >>> demand for natural gas.

the people harvesting natural gas are often doing it at a loss, because they are contractually required to supply so much to a larger big name outfit at a pre agreed upon price, like 2005 agreed upon prices.

the large outfits sold to way too many people looking to make money drilling for nat gas. this was back right after hurricane katrina when gas prices first went up to about 4 bucks a gallon. natural gas prices had been slowly but steadily rising up until that point, and exploded (relative to the times) when new orleans shut down. they used this to convince people it would be about 10x what todays price is.

people jumped on, and there is now too much nat gas and it crashed the market. it is one of those situations where the big name guys loose in the casino, and the rest of us who use it for our daily lives are getting a nice benefit instead of the shaft.

another reason natural gas prices are low, is there is no incentive for wall street investors to buy billions of it at a time. wall street will buy an entire tanker worth of oil and sit it for 6 months and wait for the price to go up. can't do that with natural gas in the same manner.

Until recently we were told "supply and demand" over and over again. Now, steady job growth, steady new construction projects,.... low demand?

Also, all other fuels are traded on a global market, the demand for natural gas may never outpace the supply. That should be viewed as a GOOD thing, it must be a full time job for some of you guys to find the negative in topics surrounding current events.

Me? I like cheap(er) fuels, we've been getting bent over steadily for years now. Someone sneezed in the gulf of Mexico and gas prices went up $15 cents. Now they're falling and we have to find a reason to see that in a doom and gloom fashion? :sad20:

May I point out that the stuff they are extracting out of the earth is more dangerous than the chemicals they are injecting.

With coal on it's way to being outlawed, all the extra NG will get sold off to generate electricity.

lets not forget the shady companies improperly disposing of waste fluids.

Many of the fracking problems are caused by shady operators not the process itself.

Since they are limiting fracking to areas where private mineral rights exist and areas with existing gas/oil contracts have gone out it should not have much impact.

National forests are "lands of many uses", and commercial is a part of that- we need to keep our eyes on them maintaining balance.

This is the kind of stuff that's most damaging. Like illegal guns are to our cause.

I don't think fracking is environmentally friendly by any standard putting chemicals into the ground is never good, But it is a necessary evil if we want to continue the lifestyle we have.

The chemicals go into formations anywhere from 1500' to 18000' deep. Most of the chemicals come right back out the well is back flowed.

I've got news for you, we do more harm to ground water buy shooting into the side of hill, using a septic tank or fertilizing our lawns.
