Crotchety Old Guy Who Owns Too Many Guns

It has taken less than four days for the anti-gun crowd to fixate on this story. MSM reporters in New Jersey made it sound like Florida is replete with crotchety old men shooting dog-walkers and "shall issue" carry will make New Jersey just like Florida. I also find it less than "coincidental" that this story shows up just as Florida is considering Constitutional carry.

Delray Beach Man in Golf Cart Shoots Dog-Walker, Beats Him with Clubs

    DELRAY BEACH, Fla. —
It was Sunday just before 7 p.m. when the peaceful quiet on the 15th hole of the Kings Point Golf Course was shattered by the sound of gunshots and retirees watching from their balconies were shocked to see a 74-year-old man shooting at a dog-walking neighbor.

Deputies arrived to find Herbert Merritt, 64, lying on the ground, a “gunshot wound to his left ankle,” according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office arrest report. Nearby, they found Robert Levine, with a “black semi-automatic handgun in his front left pocket.”

Merritt told deputies he was walking his dog on the grass next to the golf course when Levine rode up in his golf cart and “Levine… began causing a verbal altercation with him due to having his dog on the golf course… He then began shooting at him while Merritt was running away.”

Levine chased Merritt around a tree while continuing to shoot – Merritt said he shot about five rounds at him, according to the report and witnesses.
Merritt told deputies he had never seen Levine before, did nothing to provoke him and “he felt that Levine was trying to kill him.”

Witnesses told deputies they saw Levine kick Merritt in the head, go back to his cart and get a club and begin beating Merritt with the club while holding the gun in his left hand. Deputies said they found shell casings on the ground and two golf clubs with what appeared to be blood on them.

Merritt was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries from being shot and beaten and Levine is apparently still in the hospital for unrelated reasons.

Levine is charged with attempted first-degree murder and other charges.

    Ban golf courses.

Nothing good ever comes from golf. Leave it to the Scots, who revel in being miserable dour skinflints. They alone deserve the agony of golf. Everyone else is far too easily triggered to indulge in such a boring yet depressing so-called "sport". Golf leads to violent explosions of emotion; 74 year old men with their brains baked and shriveled in Florida sunshine should be kept indoors and away from sensible right-thinking dog owners, and impressionable children of all ages.

If the dog walker would have only cleaned up the poop, there would not have been an issue. :sarcasm:
Some accounts say they were on the golf course, not just next to it. That area is well known for the PGA, golf and pro golfers in residence, and some people take the game extremely seriously. Which iron is best for chipping a golf ball out of a pile of dog poop? What if your golf ball just rolled through it and has poop all over it? What do you do? Can you replace the ball without a penalty? Is there a PGA rule? Is any money riding on it? I bet the attacker had an experience that triggered this reaction. :innocent0

A golf course is a wicked, evil waste of a perfectly good potential shooting range.

Sounds like yet another Crazy Cat Lover attack.

We need to Do Something! about Cat Violence.
Lavine was not concerned about cats. He was worried about his balls. Levine was concerned his balls would be soiled.
