Mods please delete if not allowed. I was wondering if anyone might need some deep engraving done with a fiber laser? I'm in upper moco and just screwing around with this thing. It's a 50 watt JPT MOPA.

This can do ATF regulation engraving on just about anything you can think of.

I don't know much about diode lasers but I'm willing to learn.

I got a 30w JPT LP a couple of weeks ago. I've been testing settings to use to engrave the plates on P80's. Been engraving other stuff too. It's quite fun.

Forgive me, but doesn't Montgomery County have laws making these illegal? If so, just bringing them to you could put you and the owner in the commie crosshairs!

A laser engraver? I think not. Otherwise a lot of folks would be out of business.
I was referring to the home built firearm in need of engraving to comply with the new state law. Thought Mont. Co. made them illegal on their own a while back.

Previously if you serialized your home built it covered it. No FFL needed. If you do choose to sell it or have a smith work on it you will need a FFL to transfer it and complete the 77r. Technically I am guessing they want you to go and "voluntary" pay to register them. However, I seriously doubt that will happen with many of them. My thought is to meet the minimal "required" bar. YMMV

Your fiber laser will be much better than my little diode :) I am limited to what I can etch outside of wood and (Not transparent) acrylic. Anodized aluminum works really well though.

Don't sell your diode short. They're still great.

With the JPT MOPA (master oscillator power amplifier configuration) You can do all kinds of colors on stainless steel too.
