Apparently this latest recruiting class is the largest they've had in ten years with 59 recruits and it's the most diverse in the department's history. Of the 59, 13 are women. The Sergeant handling recruiting credits a $15,000 signing bonus, a fast application process, new wellness programs and an easier transition into the academy. He said they are currently 90% staffed and still looking to hire more officers.

Making history one DIE recruit at a time.
They're actually not offering as much of a bonus as DC is:

$25k Hiring Bonus: All new hires will receive $15,000 when they begin their academy training as an initial hiring bonus. Upon successful completion of the academy, all new hires will receive an additional $10,000 at time of academy graduation. An existing two year obligated service agreement is required from time of graduation. Members who resign from the Department prior to the expiration of the service agreement will be required to repay the hiring bonus. Please note that this applies to those hired between 4/6/23 and 9/30/23.

    or Montgomery County:

    $20k Hiring Bonus

Do all the local jurisdictions recognize each other's academy? If you go through the Fairfax academy would you then be eligible to apply in a few years in DC or Maryland?

In the local hiring environment, probably. They'll take them as "laterals" with an abbreviated, agency specific academy.

I have a new neighbor who is MSP. He went to an academy outside Pittsburgh. He also said that in his class, there were a bunch of guys from New Jersey police departments. From what I gather, it depends on the department.

Fact: More female police officers mean disproportionately more officer involved shootings. Female police officers go to gun faster than even morbidly obese men (who are more likely to shoot unarmed fleeing subjects in the back).
Female officers get severely injured more often as well.
Diversity Hire is code for lowered academic and physical fitness to "pass."

How many were hired because they qualify without bonus points for being diverse?

****Dunno but several of my friends who are MoCo police (they do CrossFit) tell me the quality of the newer recruits is *way* down and they are hiring people that would never have made it past any interview process, or who would have flunked out otherwise before.

The bonus is presumably to attract a better quality candidate, but it would seem many people who would make *great* law enforcement officers are choosing other career paths at this point in time so they are taking the best of the worst people they have to choose from. Probably a recipe for disaster in the future, or even present.

    Per the article:

In October 2021, FCPD joined over 100 other agencies in signing the 30×30 pledge, which aimed to increase the representation of women in police recruit classes to 30% by the year 2030.

13 out of 59 recruits being women puts them at 22%. Expect more.

AOC would be proud. I wish them all the Best, maybe the p80 toting hoods will be easy on females or people that look more like them. If that's what it takes, great we can start segregating Police officers.

It's hilarious to me MSP offers 0 in the way of recruitment and pay the least. Last time i checked they were struggling with police shortages, dunno if the evened out

Best pay and retirement goes to a federal spot.
