I'm also new to the knife game and to MD Shooters in general.

I have my father's old hunting knife - the blade is Solingen steel but rusted fairly badly (though I've recovered it a bit) and with that awful 1960s-era plastc faux-bone handle. I'd like to bring it back to its original luster but with a better, more-ergonomic handle and a left-handed sheath.

Do you have any recommendations for a local (Baltimore or DC-area) "knife smith?"

    Thanks in advance!

They are just west of Pittsburgh, but Blind Horse Knives does wonderful work and may be worth contacting. THey do quite a bit of custom work along with their monthly specials and production knives. LT is a great person (he's the owner) and will be at the Chantilly gun show next weekend. May be worth the trip to see what he thinks.

I have quite a few of their knives, I buy more specials than I pass on and I have had several custom knives made --

They have a wide variety of scales available and some of my favorites have stag handles. They also have their own leather shop since you asked about sheaths too.

    Good luck
