Midway USA has this knife for $80. This is a pretty good deal and is at least $30 less than I could find anywhere else.
Here is a description of various metal types on BladeHQ to see where VG-10 stands.
San Mai construction sandwiches hard metals and soft metals together to try and get the best of both worlds (durability and flexibility). It takes a higher level of craftmanship to create and is generally a finer piece of equipment over just a singular steel.
I have this knife in CPM-3V steel and the build quality is very nice. The included sheath locks the knife in very tightly. There aren't many knives at this price point that will compete with this one. The ones that come to mind are Kabars and they are 1095 steel.
