It’s still more weatherproof than a blued hunting rifle if you prepare it right. I wipe down the whole thing with grease so it won’t run in the rain and won’t easily wear off from handling. The parkerizing holds grease great. I mix some beeswax into the linseed oil so the stock is reasonably waterproof. The action can be removed from the stock without a screwdriver and the recesses are easily to dry off.

My main M1 and 03 have gotten soaked a few times from hunting or from shooting in the open and I don’t even bother to detail strip them anymore. They dry fine on their own after I get most of the water off.

Got my CMP Garand back this week after taking it to Charlie Maloney for an inspection. It is a 2017 Service Grade with a new Boyd barrel that I treated with Tung Oil. After going over it with him in his shop I decided to have a new Criterion barrel installed. The old SA 44 barrel was approaching the end of it's shooting lifespan. Charlie also worked a bit on the stock where the op rod was rubbing, installed a new op rod spring, rebuilt the sites, darkened the receiver a bit to match the new barrel, and adjusted everything accordingly to give me a match grade shooter for the rest of my shooting lifespan. My receiver group is a Winchester 42. Really love the gun.
