I just received a heavy hammer spring from Talontunes yesterday and did some preliminary work over the Chrony before it got dark. Wow! 1st, I can pressurize to 3000 PSI and effectively use the additional 300 PSI. With th lighter spring, I could only pressurize to 2600 if I wanted a shot string that would hit same POI. 2nd, the spring gives me an additional 100 or so FPS on some loads which really drives up the FPE. That said, my Sumo will not cut it and I will have to buy a Ronin to quiet it up if I keep it configured this way. Additionally, the power wheel doesn't do much for you with the heavy spring.

Today, even though it is raining, I am going to try shooting with an oring under the top hat on the valve and see if it does anything. I can't use the Chrony but I'll see if there is a noticeable report change.

Got to play with the TalonP some more today but no Chrony as it rained all day. After the Ark settles back on land I will post some speeds.

The #5 O ring under the fixed top hat on the valve made a big difference and it wasn't dumping excess air. Additionally, the power wheel settings show a large difference between 0 and 10 which is as high as I went today.

The power of this little 12 inch barreled .25 is downright awesome. Here are some pics showing just how powerfull it is now. Everything was shot at 25 yards with the power wheel at 10.

The end piece of pressure treated pine was hit with a 25gn Benjamin Diablo. This is a very hard pellet and the penetration shows it. Then I shot a 34 grain JSB King Heavy into my sand target and heard what sounded like wood being struck. It sure was. The JSB pellet went through about 5 inches of play sand and then 1/4 inch into the pressure treated 2 x12 backer. WoW!:shocked3:

I can't wait for the rain to stop.

I've played with a few different air rifles now. For small game, the 25 is about perfect. I shoot squirrel with mine and tried the .22 at one point. It did the job but had to be perfect. The 25 allows a little more allowance. Sounds like you're going to have a real shooter. AF makes a good gun. I think your going to have a lot of fun with it.

I like it! Tomorrow I will hopefully be able to put the Chrony out and see what kind of shot strings I get with the new hammer spring. I also want to get some of Hunter's supply bullets to see how they work. I have read some good things about them but the reviews were with Talons and Condors not the TalonP.

Now that you might need more air, this seems like the next best upgrade for just $38. 380cc instead of 213cc of air would mean 18 shots instead of 10, or 36 instead of 20.

    Same diameter just 4" longer...

I have been looking into these but am confused by the threads on the tank and valve. If I remove the valve from my Talon P tank, will it screw into this bottle?

    TIA,

I got my valve parts yesterday and installed the new bottle. It really adds shots to your string! Now I have to go back and work up a new string with the extra air.

At least I learned the insides of the AirForce Valve. No one had a schematic or even a parts diagram and AirForce wouldn't send one. Funny, they will sell you parts but not show you how they assemble. I did call them to get the proper torque for the pressure release device. It is a plug screw that has a copper disk holdingthe blowout disk against the plug. They were willing to tell me that it required 80 inch pounds of torque to make sure it seals.

I also went back to my original spring as the gun is too loud even with my Sumo with the heavy spring. The Ronin would quiet it down but it would lighten my pocket book too!

I have had one bad experience and that was with the 3D butt stock that I bought off of ebay. The front ear has cracked and, while it is still holding, it probably will fail unless I beef it up. I'll probably epoxy a washer to it with JB Weld and see how that holds up.

    Regards,

    John

Nice to learn the insides of the gun. I figured you would go back on spring. Had to be wasting air. Most guys uses those heavy springs to put out over 100fpe, with the 24" barrels......which aren't hard to put on your TalonP. I got a .30cal LW barrel from a different gun I had. Would make a nice barrel for this gun, but I think I'd also need a larger bore breech, bushings and of course a lathe to turn it down.

I worked up a string today of 20 with .25gn JSB Diablo's (lots of work involved with the chrony, rest, note taking. Nice day though.
This load gave me a SD of 11 with an ES of 40. I think I will drop down from a 2800 fill to 2700 and see what happens. I ended with 2300 left in the tank so I have room to maneuver. I forget the average velocity but it came out to 41 FPE.

I also plan to work up a string with 34 gn Diablo's. Then I will try to develop settings that will allow me to use 25gn at 25 yards and 34's out to 50. I want to stay in the 35 to 40 range as I kill pests with my airguns and I don't want to cripple anything.

I was using my Avenger for long shots but the TalonP is much handier. I have a lite 4xAO scope on it and it is just the ticket for that carbine.

Before I forget, thansk BTB for the tip about the large tank. It gives more shots and a better cheek rest. :party29:

Your rifle is a .25 caliber, right? I've tried quite a few different pellets in my MRod .25. All shoot well but JSBs seem to be the best. Have you tried the Predator Polymags yet? I really like them. They hit hard and mushroom well. The ones I have found are around .35 inch. Quite the wallop. What Kind of critters are you taking with yours? I took 4 or 5 groundhogs with my MRod. I used domes for them. All but one was DRT.

.25 cal. I have a .22 Marauder Pistol that I have used Polymags in. I find the JSB Exact Jumbo Heavy gives me better results. They are literally hole touching hole accurate. Being 18 grains, they give me more FPE as well.

In the .25, I have found that the Benjamin 25 gn pellets give better penetration than JSB as they are made of a harder alloy. For 50 yards, I use either the JSB 34 gn Diablo or AVS slugs made by Steve Bianci on Long Island. His slugs are very consistent and carry further and with more energy.

As for critters, I have destructive coons, tree rats, groundhogs, crows and cow birds. I also have foxes digging for moles or groundhogs but I am waiting until my .22 suppressor comes it for that task.

Understand that. I moved to the country about 3.5 years ago and don't need to be quiet but before that I lived in a high density area and quiet was imperative. My MRod has been tweaked a bit, larger shroud, depingers, tuned pretty well and trigger work. Those green mountain barrels are really awesome. Mine will shoot one hole at 25 yards and around a quarter to half inch at 50. I really like it, but that Talon P you have is quite temping. Light, short, accurate, powerful, what more could you ask for? Is it threaded for a can? I think I saw that they do make a Talon SS, why didn't you go for that? The integrated shroud would probable make it very quiet. I have the Texan SS and it is louder than I'd hoped, but trying to diffuse all that air is tough. Kind of sounds like someone closing a car door hard.

I bought the TalonP because it looked to be smaller than the other offerings. As for a can, DonnyFL sells adapters and cans. I already have some cans so I just had to buy an adapter and mount it.

I'm too old and infirm to hunt large game anymore so a Texan is not in my future. With that gun, you had better make your own bullets 'cause they are pretty pricey.

Even making your own bullets isn't cheap. I found some 350 grain bullets that shot pretty good and bought a few extra boxes a few years ago. Guess my stocking up wasn't so stupid after all.

I probably met you at the Baltimore Game and Fish show. You sell anything good there?
I bought some 7MM Mag ammo there.

Not sure how quite these are, but I do have his 1/2-20 one on my .177 and it does great. I was going to get one of these but the TalonP I picked up used already had the DonnyFL adapter to 1/2-20 on it.
