Anyone know what the new benefits are? It looks like they increased bond limit by 500k for all the plans/upgrades, 500k -> 1M and 1M -> 1.5M

Here's a blog type post by a lawyer rating some of them. CCW Safe was his #1 pick with this note:

Editor’s note: it is very difficult (impossible?) for us to determine which option is “best” for you and your specific situation/needs. Much like how I can’t determine what level of coverage you need for homeowners insurance, I can’t tell you which firearms legal protection option to get. However, in an attempt to make it simple, I’ll say this: I purchased CCW Safe for myself and my family.

Yeah I have CCW safe and just got the email about the upgrades too. It's nice that they are added to our current plans with no additional costs. I'm guessing they wanted to get even more competitive with the other providers?

US Law sheild is about the cheapest and cheap enough that I tell everyone they should at least have this one. Just my opinion of corse. Multi state and bail bond insurance are the kinda important extras with US law sheild, IIRC. Which makes it about the same cost as CCW safe. They do cover defending you against fighting red flag law used against you. I don't think the others cover that.

CCW safe protector/defender if the best value. If you add up all the coverages that US law sheild charges extra for. CCW is a better value but the big issue is they don't cover you at all if you shoot someone in self defense if you initially invited them in. So, for instance if you had a BBQ and a invited neighbor who attacked you and you where forced to defended yourself you wouldn't have coverage. Also, self defense against a family member is not covered. So, for instance, your daughter is attacked by her estranged husband and you had to defend her your not covered. This is a big deal when you consider how many people are attacked by someone they know.

CCW safe doesn't include civil liability with the above plans. USCCA is the best value if you want that included. But they have lower crimal limits on most everything. Also they expect you to pay everything back to them if you are found guilty or take a plea deal which is the biggest deal breaker for me.

I have CCW safe but I have serious considered getting USCCA as well to fill different gaps.

The e mail said another e mail will be sent out within 24 hours
I've received three notices saying membership(s) have been upgraded at no cost. I haven't gotten anything that explains the changes, though I did notice that the Protector Plan now includes honorably discharged military. When I signed up I clicked citizen with a permit, and wonder if there's a need to advise them of my discharge status (though I doubt it).

The honorably discharged veteran clause was already on the protector plan, I got that plan with my DD-214 back in September.

I didn’t realize that. Guess it really doesn’t make a difference which choice I made.
I didn’t see it when I first looked into it, it seemed to be almost hidden, but when I went back to it later on it seemed to be sticking out like a sore thumb. There was a 10% off code back when I started mine, not sure if there’s one now.

I seem to remember something along those lines but looks like they may have changed their stance on that. From the current terms:

“Domestic Relationships: CCW Safe provides service for Covered Members in all Recognized Use of Force Self-Defense Incidents without regard to the relationship of the parties involved. CCW Safe does not cover incidents that are the result of a criminal act by the member or illegal activity.”

That is not always true. Not even in MD.

There was that huge case a couple years back where the drunk guy tried to break into some dude's house and the homeowner shot him

The homeowner didn't even leave his house that night. Police took his statement and left. No charges filed.

It's certainly possible. But it is not a guarantee.

Even if they do cuff you while they secure the scene, that is not an arrest. If they cuff you and take you away from the scene that is an arrest. They need to have a crime to arrest and book you.

If it's a cut and dry self defense shooting with numerous witnesses that point to you as the good guy, you probably aren't getting arrested. Detained while the cops sort things out....sure. But odds are you are going home that night directly from the scene. A prosecutor may drum up charges and serve you with an arrest warrant later, but that is a different story.

Exception.... Montgomery County. Logic and laws seem to have no bearing there. You could be shot 25 times but if you so much as pull your gun out you may be immediately tossed on death row and executed that night without trial because you were within 1022.4 meters of both a school and a state park.
big difference being in your house.

I‘m paying CCW safe monthly for now.

I’m also of the opinion - in the absence of reports to the contrary - that these insurance scams are YUGE winners for the lawyers/owners, and the relative amount of money being paid out for defense cases are minuscule by comparison.

No way to really know, is there?

In a van, down by the river.
A former coworker who may be a member here posed these questions to ask on a work forum.

    Questions to ask about coverage:

Is it legal services only, or insurance?
    Max atty fee? ($50K)
    Expert witness fee?
    Independent investigator fee?
Liability coverage if you lose? ($1M)
    Civil suite protection?
    Criminal prosecutions (($250K)

    Limitations:
    Zero alcohol?
    Firearm only?
