Thanks everyone! I appreciate the kind words.

You know, it's funny - I was going to shoot my first round on the Missus's BT-99, but we had our son out there, and we ended up putting him on the line with me rather than to have him sit out and observe. He'd already watched a round and felt confident that he could do ok on his own, so we put him on the line with the BT-99 for his first shots out of a shotgun ever.

But to answer the question, I'm going to keep the Cynergy CX, but I do have a suggestion. In hindsight, rather than getting a 30" barrel, I'd get the 32" for maybe a bit better point.

I'm keeping the Cynergy, but I'm still thinking pretty seriously about getting a BT-99 too.

Get this - my son, having never fired a shotgun in his life ever, never mind shooting at a moving target, shot a 14 on his very first round! He shot 3 rounds for a 14, 13 and 15. And was disappointed with it! He doesn't seem to understand that people typically don't do that well right out of the gate.

I almost shot a 50 straight - my next round I was crushing, and then inexplicably dropped clay #49 - just flat missed. It is what it is. Back to the drawing board!

Congrats to your son, that’s a great start to trapshooting. Thanks for the suggestion but I think I’m going to stick with the 30” barrels, they felt very comfortable.
I don’t think you can go wrong with a BT-99, I’ve rented one a few times and loved it

    Time to bump the thread.

One of the guys at the range wanted to sell his bare bones Browning BT-99, 32" barrel. For the price he was selling I couldn't pass on it. The first round I short with it I shot a 24 and my worst round with it to date is a 21.

It has the plain conventional stock so I'll probably shoot it that way for a bit, but I might have it modded so that the stock can be fitted - adjustable comb and butt plate.

I enjoy it so far. I do think that if I had it modded for both adjustable comb and butt plate, it would likely be the last trap singles gun I ever buy - there would be no need to get anything else.

I've read so many places that "getting your shotgun fitted is a must!" I wonder if that would make the difference between me shooting 22-24 and running 25-50 straight because right now I don't feel like my scores are reflective of the shotgun - I think it's just me missing for one reason or another.

Most of the time I know why I miss when it happens - I can usually reflect on the shot and know that I led too far, didn't lead enough, shot high, etc. Sometimes though, I'll pull the trigger and that danged clay just keeps right on sailing, and I'm scratching my head trying to figure out why I missed because the shot looked good when I pulled the trigger.

Fortunately that's happening less and less these days though.

Wednesday I went out and shot 5 rounds:

21, 24, 24, 24, 21 - by the last round, my concentration was starting to wane, but that 4th round was danged near a 25. I dropped my 23rd clay.

I went out on Sunday and shot 4 rounds:

    22, 23, 23, 23 - again, no 25, but 23 isn't an awful score.

I’m getting my new one soon, think I’m going with a Citori CX instead of the Cynergy.
    They are very similar.

In hindsight I should have waited and gotten the Citori, but the Cynergy is getting it done pretty well thus far.

Another variant, the CXS has a 50/50 POI pattern vs 60/40 for the CX. Depends on what you want I guess. IDK - I think Browning has really improved the Cynergy from what it used to be.

So I ended up getting a Citori CX w/30” barrels. Finding this particular model was almost impossible. There are a few with 32” barrels around, Clyde’s Sport shop in Baltimore has one with 30” barrels and an adjustable comb which was a waste of money for me as I definitely don’t need the stock to go up.

Shot 3 practice clays to start and hit them all…….then proceeded to get an 11/25 on my first round of trap with it this afternoon.
Followed that ugliness up with 23, 23, & 20 to finish the day. Got the hang of
    It lol.
    Great purchase, really like it.

Beautiful gun! That's a keeper. I'm kind of surprised you didn't get the 32" - in hindsight, that's what I would have gotten.

The BT-99 is a 32" rather than the 34" that seems to be the most sought after, but I'm ok with that - 32" is enough and I shoot pretty well with it....except for trap league on Saturday - I shot like a big bag of @$$ on Saturday. My wife SMOKED me. She shot a 21 and 21. I shot a 17 and a 16. Actually, the 16 didn't have to be quite that bad. I was so frustrated that I walked off the line with 3 shots left.

I was out Wednesday night and shot 21, 22, 24 with the BT-99, then I let someone else shoot it and I shot my Cynergy for a 22.

Probably 90% of the time, I will use this gun for regulation trap. I do want to try 5-stand, sporting clays, and shoot skeet again every once in a while. That's the main reason I went with 30" barrels. I also didn't want more weight on the front end.
I actually had my gel recoil pad that goes in my trap vest fall out and didn't realize it. Shot 100 rounds today and it's quite a soft shooting gun. So far I love it.

Hey! It was great seeing and shooting with you on Sunday! You're getting the hang of your Citori - you had some nice rounds with it.

I'm still getting used to the BT-99. I'm thinking about sending it off for some work. There's a guy out in Colorado who does custom shotgun stuff, to include custom, adjustable ribs.

One of the guys on the Saturday Evening trap league has a BT-99 Plus he's trying to sell that has all the goods - recoil reduction with adjustable LOP, adjustable comb, adjustable rib, which is already elevated, ejector - it's a pretty snazzy gun and he didn't want too much for it given what it is, but by the time I'd realized it was for sale, I had already agreed to buy a BT-99 from someone else - didn't feel it would be right to back out when I'd already told him I'd buy it.

Hopefully I'll see you out there again soon!

Good to see you too! I may be out there again Friday afternoon, if not then I'll definitely try for Saturday or Sunday. I've got the itch bad now, next goal is 25 straight and 85/100.
    The quest continues.

What's the name of the gunsmith doing adjustable ribs?

Just thought I'd bump this thread. I went back to the Cynergy from the BT-99. I just seem to shoot a bit better with it, and today I managed to put together another 25 straight at PG Co. Trap & Skeet.

They don't specifically give out patches for 25 straights but my wife is an old acquaintance of a gal who works behind the counter in the clubhouse, and they scrounged up a patch. Interestingly, I was shooting a box of Remington STS hull reloads when I shot the 25.

It's been a good shotgun and it's digested a lot of rounds since I bought it in January.

    Nicely done!
So I've been on the hunt for 25 straight, just haven't been able to get there. Shot with my friend Mark this morning at AGC and went 23, 23, 22, 22 for 90/100.
90/100 and 25 straight were my two goals. Got one out of the way, the 25 is proving more elusive.
I thought I was going to get there on my last round today. I was very comfortable and in a groove.
    Missed #22, 23, 24, and hit #25. I simply rushed the shot on 22 & 23. Still pissed and missed 24.
    So frustrating.

I've done 90/100 a bunch. One day I shot 24, 24, 24, 22 - just couldn't seem to pull off a 25, and that last round was thinking that maybe I was still focused enough to pull it off.

It's really weird just how tough shooting a 25 straight can be because on paper, it seems so simple. Yesterday was even set up bad for me because I started on position 2, giving me 5 and 1 as my last two positions. I've been shooting pretty well lately though - at this point I've hit so many 24s I've lost count, and a 20 is low for me.

And it really is mentally taxing - I see what you described above so often - where people are in the zone, but miss one, and then all of a sudden they miss a couple more. I did the same thing one night at trap league where I went into position 5 with a 20, and then came off the line with a 22. It is what it is! LOL!

I'm going to bump this thread again. I had another good night at the trap range with the Browning Cynergy - somehow I managed to shoot 50 straight.

I'm celebrating with the bottle of Blanton's I'd set aside, only to be opened if I put together a 50 straight.
