Can carroll county just leave maryland?

We can form our own state or become a part of PA.

The liberals can have baltimore/dc, we dont really want it.

This is likely just a pipe dream but i wish it would happen.

No. Counties are the creation of the state. Their power all comes from the state. It is nearly impossible to secede from the state or do anything of that nature. If I remember correctly the eastern shore has tried this several times.

It was interesting on Sunday.

The wife and I were at the Inner Harbor for an event, and I noticed something.

Somehow, beyond all logic, the place seemed to be thriving.

Harborplace is full up (including a Ripley's), the development of Inner Harbor East is in full flower, the ground has been broken for the new casino, there are now plenty of new attractions for visitors (Pirate cruises, giant speedboats...), and prepping for a 3d Grand Prix

Suddenly it dawned on me... the money being pumped in to the area is working. Not to bolster the city, but to drain travelers from other parts of the state!

Raise the tolls... bring resort attractions in... Further marginalize the outer reaches of the state.

"Plan Maryland" in action!!!

I doubt it will ever happen. There are too many politicial hoops to jump through. The creation of a new state is basically out of the question unless you have a supermajority Republican Senate/House/President. Democrats would have to be insane to allow a new Republican state to be created.

Not to mention that you have to go through the actual state first and I highly doubt the city is going to allow giving up a tax base for their welfare programs. The only “industry” in MD is military and healthcare, both of which could/should be drastically cut so I doubt they will allow taxes to escape in a time where literally everything is on the table by the budget cuts of the federal government.

I remember back in the 60's or 70's, Western MD tried to join WV. That didn't go well.

Basically, MD is not going to give up the Tax revenue.
