I have two nephews who live in South Carolina. They are 15 & 17 and recently received their SC hunting licenses. They have gone with a friend and used one of their friends guns. They now want shotguns of their own. Is it legal for me to buy a shotgun here in MD and gift it to them?

    Thanks in advance,

    THIS

    AND THIS
    Echoing that.

Briefly, because it is interstate, it would need to go through an FFL. FFLs could not conduct the transfer to individuals under age 18 for long guns.

If you lived in SC, it would be perfectly legal to purchase them and gift them to your nephews. Heck, if they lived in MD right now it would be also. But because it is interstate and they are under age, no go. The easiest is just speak to their parents and send the parents a check for the shotguns and have them purchase them as a gift for the kids in your name.
