So I'm cleaning up some brass and started noticing a consistent blemish on the cases. The rifle is brand new and these are all once fired Remington cases.
Are these blemishes normal? Or is this an indication something is wrong with my weapon?
I've never had a semi-auto rifle before so I have nothing to compare them with...
    Thanks.

small dents like this are normal

this is completely normal. as the brass is ejected, it is coming back and banging on the ejection port or the deflector. Not problematic at all. the brass is fine to reload. You can trim the ejection spring one coil at a time and it will not throw the brass as violently and reduce the dent and or keep it from hitting the deflector. Very common thing for high power shooters to do.

If its an AR rifle, thats not abnormal.

Ive seen worse dents then those. Load them, they will blow back out after firing.

It is an AR. First one I've owned. I'm glad this isn't abnormal deformation. I expected some cases to be dinged after firing but the pattern just caught my attention...
    THANK YOU!

I hoarded lots of fired 223/556 brass from the range over the years, and find dents that are far worse then those. Mini 14's put dents in cases too, sometimes worse then what you have.

If you think those dents are bad go get an M1... they chew up brass before they spit them out. Battlerifles aren't meant to be nice to brass they are meant to have positive extraction and ejection and keep running. This unfortunately means lost of bent and dented cases for those that reload.

They seem fine only downside of most autos is you dont always get as many reloads before the brass is junk depending on the rifle.

    Dents are fine.

If there is a crease in the brass, I would not use it.

Get a piece of velcro with the sticky backing and put it on the brass deflector. Degrease the brass deflector with alcohol first and it will stay on a long time.

This keeps your brass from getting the traditional AR dents.

Nope, not you. For future reference, I prefer sugar and milk on my Cheerios.:D

I'll PM you next time I'm heading to Western MD and bring some for ya...

Thanks to all for clearing that up for me. I was scratching my head wondering WTF did I do (or not do). I knew trolling is bad but still really don't know what the hell it is. haha
