I'm fatter then I want to be, lotta meat out front and some lapping over the sides.

I also carry a CZ Rami, short but chunky and heavy. I know i could get something smaller and lighter, but I like the gun, I like all metal, I like hammer/decocker instead of striker/safety.

I tried various options, but IWB tuckable covers my needs best. i use a pancake when I can get away with it in terms of cover garments, because it's mos comfortable. Otherwise it's a leather single-clip IWB tuck at 4 o'clock, more or less. My holster has the clip positioned off to one side, making it less obtrusive. It's made by Eric Larsen at HBE Leatherworks. Here's a photo from his website:

The thing is, no method of carry or holster makes someone thinner. No one way is going to be much more comfortable either. Gun is still going to pinch with fat. That's the way it is. My IWB conceals nicely under a fat roll. It hurts, but that's the cost. IWB at 2-ish O'clock with a larger shirt will do it.
Pancake holsters sit on top of the fat roll, thus making a bump and no larger size shirt will drape over it, but on top of it to print. At least with IWB, the fat roll looms over top, allowing the shirt to drape straight down from the roll, and not on the pistol.

I appreciate it, I'll definitely look into that. I'm glad I posted because I am getting a lot of variations of 330-4 o'clock so I appreciate the starting point.

I appreciate it. Trust me, I went from super fit to muscular to obese. Every single day the past 8 or so years I have learned the hard way about the discomforts and pains of being overweight. Between pants never fitting right, belts digging and cutting into you and everything else - that there just aren't any visible ways to make things wonderful - other than losing the weight.

Having said that, I'm just trying to make it is manageable as possible. I appreciate the feedback. What you said speaks precisely to my initial concerns which is why I asked the question so you are 100% on the ball.

I've been teaching it for many years now. It was the mainstay of my job.

Try making your own sweat guard. I do it with many holsters.

I should mention that Mr Larsen will wish to speak with you as a preliminary to ordering a holster; it was interesting to pick his brains regarding the optimal holster for my situation. I never would have looked at the one I ended up with, absent the discussion. He will also set up the holster with whatever cant you want, and so forth. Nice custom work, at reasonable prices.

Blaster mentions the pinch factor, and Ed Shell noted that he replaced his OEM grips with wood, which he found less problematic with abrading the body and grabbing onto the clothing.

It's an ongoing process to optimise one's personal setup.

I like that. Given the abnormal body I would embrace a less universal holster and someone walking a newbie through the process. I did buy a holster but if it doesn't work for me, or I discover that different occasions require different accommodations, then I would look forward to speaking with him.

*****I'm not currently obese, but am planning to be so after I get married and can just let myself go vs having to eat healthy, and workout all of the time, dress in tight clothing, etc.. as I do now to attract a suitable mate vs an inflate-a-mate, or a hot goat, etc..

That being said, I have found that different occasions require different holsters due to weather, clothing styles, and activity level (driving versus standing or sitting at a desk, wearing shorts or a Speedo, etc..). My most minimalist carry option that is not a sticky pocket holster type is a Zero Carry Elite type Kydex holster on a *good* quality belt. The holster is very small and has a decent trigger guard with good retention that is adjustable.

Some pics below - I can do appendix or 2,3,4 O'clock carry with it with minimal cover garment but my fellow W&C instructors who are all significantly heavier than I am with a big belly can remarkably make the gun disappear under a Polo shirt, tucked in or not with I guess their belly flopped over the gun as a natural cover garment. It works well for some body types, and obviously not so much for others.

If you can get down to the Essen Room or one of our MDS meetups, many of us bring several holsters and you can see what might work better for you and ask to see how others carry, etc..

I personally use a belly band type holster or shoulder rig as I don't generally wear a belt but when I do wear one, the minimalist Zero Carry Elite type or similar works really well IME.

If you sweat a lot the Kydex type with some kind of sweat barrier/cloth tape or Moleskin material on the inside of the holster that touches your skin will make things more comfy in addition to somewhat reducing friction against your skin from sweat, etc.. if it is hot outside.

Anyway, just something to think about and consider if your body type lends itself to it.

That's a real purty goat you got there. Does she party?

Kydex requires a nice snappy draw, from what I understand, which is why I tend toward leather, aside from its fetish aspects. I can envision scenarios where a quiet draw that doesn't attract attention might be preferred.

I have a kydex holster attached to a Phlster Enigma, which has proved enigmatic regarding a convenient placement of holster on my round self. The IWB and pancake have worked well enough. I always wear a belt, as the amount of stuff I stuff into my pants tends to drag them down around my ankles otherwise. Only the Good Doctor appreciates that, uh, aspect of my sartorial appearance.

I'm giving some thought regarding shoulder holsters, and may go that way when the weather accommodates sufficient covering layers. Makes sense if one is going to spend a lot of time driving, especially through sketchy areas. I avoid them, but you never know where circumstance may lead you.

    No one-size-fits-all solution.

Dan, I saw these mentioned somewhere (likely here). If you go this route I’d recommend carrying a full sized piece to impress the ladies.

I like the idea of these, but damn these are FUGLY pants. They look like “Mom jeans”. While I never thought I was ever remotely fashion conscious, apparently even I wouldn't EVER wear jeans that stupid looking. As the kids say these days, hard pass.

$80 spent otherwise will roughly get you an Alabama Holsters front pocket holster and pair of deep pocketed jeans (at sale prices) from Duluth Trading Co. Going with the latter if those are the choices.
