Comments attached to a different article on the same subject were interesting specifically those saying to dump sodium bicarb in as a neutralizing agent. This to me seems to be the more elegant solution.

Can only imagine, sitting there by yourself, next to a giant lake of acid, breathing in toxins, killing wildlife that would otherwise experience a horrific death, and practicing marksmanship, all because of horrific industrial pollution. This is the kind of stuff that creates supervillains that really have a good point.

He wasn't killing the birds that landed there, he was shooting to scare them off (with a $5k Swarovki scope, apparently. Not sure why he'd need that but it looks like there's a bunch of money for them to spend on the project)

Maybe he is trying to hit them, but has the skills of a storm trooper. Either way, hope he doesn't befriend some type of woodland creature like a wolf or bear, and then has to jump in the acid to save them and re-emerge with some type of new ability, disfigured, and a vendetta against the mining company. That is how these type of things seem to go.

quite common in mainland China, the horrific industrial pollution part. They don't let people have guns to shoot birds.
