    Sights regulated. Reshoot with 115grain Blazer Aluminum. The green circle groups are after I warmed up, I was holding low for the red circled groups. For whatever reason I was dropping the front sight during warmup. Anyway, the distances were 15 and 30 yards, as labeled. And this pistol shoots flat in rapid fire!

    So I shot it last week and this week I decided to move ahead with another technique to reduce the girth and reach of the grip. I moved the rear of the grip frame and mainspring housing forward. Pic with arrows is before. Other pics are after the rough in.

    Well, here is my first checkering attempt. I haven’t point up the diamonds The pic with the arrow shows where things got thin. That section actually did break out…the results of pushing things too far.

    I thought it wasn’t thick enough but just serrated would be okay. Then I started setting the checkering in to eliminate the swells and true everything up. Things went south from there. I learned a few major things:
    1. That surface needs to be uniform;
    2. Cut a few horizontal and vertical serrations at first…because the file did not want to cut across the vertical searrations when I went to do the horizontal serrations. i really had to finess the file. Next time cut them all enough to track the file then gradually work my way down evenly.
    3. Found out some modern makers (Springfield in this case) use whatever hard a** steel in their molding process. I knew it before, I really ‘appreciated’ how hard it was below the surface here.
    4. Wish my niece had slightly larger hands.

    Anyway…it was exciting, fun…and educational. I will not discuss how long it took me. Nor the blood blister on one finger. The whole work area covered in chalk and filings…

    I am doing another housing, started It yesterday. I installed a fresh Wilson Combat BP housing just to show how far forward I moved the rear of the pistol. FWIW, the Wilsons tend to sit low on the back strap than many others.
