Fitted an old but NIW Crawley extractor and EGW flat bottom firing pin stop. The fps was fitted for only a brass punch needed to push the 9mm claw back. Pic of Crawley out of bag next to tuned Rock extractor. I didn’t take pic of the Crawkey after tuning because process was the same.

Faced off barrel ramp, move it forward. Polished it.

Assembled the slide assembly, barrel, bushing, recoil parts, mag catch, ejector onto frame.

Loaded both mags with 9 founds (full capacity). The malfunction was top round wouldn’t feed because I chose not to fit the ramp to the magwell at that time. It is fitted now. Pistol feeds and ejects smoothly.

In an effort to make the grip smaller i pointed up the checkering diamonds with a few passes of a pointing file. Gained a few .001” there I believe. When I get the grips back on we’ll see.

I’ll repoint them before finishing. For now I am keeping a piece of duct tape over then checkering to prevent knocking the points down.

Original mag catch too far below frame surface…called in reinforcement from Ed Brown and lock from Wilson Combat. I like the extended unit and do her short fingers. Pic of each setting in the frame.

Well, the grip safety contour did not allow the higher forward grip I had envisioned. This contour is in the picture with the blue circle. It has been bugging me so I file, drum sanded and sanded to move the area in front of the beavertail up and forward. This contour is circled in Red in one pic. The remaining two pics are of the red circled contour. Makes a big difference…point index is great also.

Last run before finishing.

I used 115 grain Blazer Aluminum ammo on a zombie target to get a feel for the pistol and see if I was achieving the goals. Some poo-pah the aluminum case ammo. I find nothing wrong with it. If it misfeeds on a full mag in a gun that feeds brass case ammo, I have found the mag lips need deburring, smoothing and polishing. On ten rounders…mag spring time, too.

I started the test and not knowing where the bench adjusted sights were looking. I didn’t use my initial original sight setting relationship because of the Group Gripper. But I knew they would be low. Pretty well centered relative to windage. Its shooting manner as expected is mild. The weight at the dust cover and the square bottom firing pin stop sees to that. I built the pistol to be mild shooting, easy to manipulate, and hang well on target. Those goals achieved. The small hand prerequisite does not jive with me but I struggled through it…lol. The accuracy and consistency is acceptable at the ranges she shoots at with inexpensive ammunition. No hickups, misfeeds, nor malfunctions. The front sight (staked .055” tenon) stayed tight.

This pistol will shoot faster than I do…I encountered ‘trigger freeze’ once while trying to keep the sights where they belonged while blasting through 9 rounds. Zombie accuracy will keep her alive. This configuratiin pistol is fun. Now I have build a railed 9 for myself. Wait, a bull barreled 9 should suffice. Ducked that money bullet…

Shot two loads, both blasting grade, for group info. This is what she will be shooting. Blazer Aluminum 115 grain FMJ and PMC 124 gr FMJ. This is with the Group Gripper fitted to it. All shooting standing offhand, two handed.

I kept a small smooth roll in the trigger for a margin of safety. I set the trigger break at 3 pounds 6 ounces from cycled slide with trigger held back. Pull is 3 pounds 8 ounces as when charging the pistol. The pulls are boringly consistent…a good thing.

You can see the pistol has a preference for 124 grain ammo, at least in the PMC variety. This has been my observations from the past with other 9mm pistols.

BLAZER 115 gr FMJ AMMO:
—11 yard target, 3 mags of 9 shots. Aiming point at bottom of bull, you can see the front sight needs some shortening.
—15 yards target, held at bottom of red minibull, two called dropped shots, 10 rounds.
— 25 yards, 3 mags of 5 shots. The four called dropped shots were two shots from each of the first two mags. I decided to really hunker down for the third mag. No dropped shots so I am declaring the horizontal group in bottom of the black the group.

PMC 124 gr FMJ AMMO:
— 11 yards, 1 mag of 9 rounds.
— 15 yards, 1 mag, 5 rounds, called flier to the left.
— 25 yards, one mag, 5 shots…I’m loving those left side shot placements.
