Bethany Beach fires police chief over alleged overtime abuse

The Town of Bethany Beach said they fired two members of their police force, including Chief Michael Redmon, following an investigation into use of overtime funds.

The Town of Bethany Beach said they fired two members of their police force, including Chief Michael Redmon, following an investigation into use of overtime funds.

According to the town, they learned in mid-August 2023 that federal and grant money was being inappropriately used by members of their police force, and opened an investigation.

While federal and state investigations are ongoing, an internal investigation led to Redmon and Captain Darin Cathell being involved, and they were fired.

According to a statement, the town believes no other officers are involved, and will not comment further.
