I’ve always used “jump the string”. And yeah sometimes that’s met with “what?”

A simple question: if you were to jump as high and far as you can from a standing position, what is the first thing you would do in preparation for the jump?

Answer: you would bend at the knees in order to 'load' your legs for the jump, right?

When a deer is frightened by a noise(like the crack made by a xbow), it bends at the knees to load it's legs in preparation for the escape.

Picture a sprinter. Does he start the race standing upright? No, he's in his starter blocks, knees bent, waiting for the gun.
Here is a nice little YT short showing exactly what you are saying

Having not yet watched the YT, I can only guess that they recommend that bow hunters always aim for the heart on broadside shots. That is what I always try to do, especially on shots outside 20 yards. It has never let me down. You will usually, at least, end up with a double lung hit.

The big rub with xbows is their noise. They are sharp and loud. I would caution xbow hunters take extra care and aim on longer shots, especially of quiet days.

My youngest took a small doe today for the WV firearms opener. We have passed on a lot of deer during the last 2 weeks of bow season looking for a nice one but the opportunity never came. Now that gun season is in its time to fill freezers.

Saw one doe this morning in WVa. The guys brought one of their dads, and he's making a mess of things. Shot a tiny doe and gut shot a buck. We tracked it for a while then backed away, but it was right in the middle of the property.

Yep it goes over where to aim for that drop showing vitals and where they will be on that drop.

hope you can at least find the gut-shot deer, I have made my fair share of bad shots

50 min after left the stand

    I can beat that maybe.

One hunting day, I drove my car down the gravel lane and parked it in the field maybe 30 yards before the edge of the woods. I estimate that I went into the woods about 4-5 hours and by now I was needing a food break. When I got back out to the edge of the woods and field, I spot a lone deer about 15-30 yards on the total opposite side of my car he was walking straight for the car and me.

Needless to say, I was not going to shoot at him there. The deer eventually made a beeline for the woods, and off to safety.

My youngest took another doe this evening. This one was much bigger. He did an amazing job of waiting for a shot on the biggest doe. We watched them feed for 40min slowly getting farther away but the one we wanted always had another in the way of a clear shot. Finally at just over 100yds she turned mostly broadside and he made the shot. Little 62gr gold dot took out the bottom of her heart.
