The date on the order is 10/2/2003.
Right. This was the judge they kicked it back down to after sustaining the preliminary version at the 5C, if I understand all this correctly correctly. Still no national ramifications (other than for FPC members, which everyone should be) while the case grinds its way through to completion. The PI order does have some tasty 2A language in it, for sure. I especially liked the "it makes the gun more precise and thus safer in its role as a self defense pistol" part - that's gonna leave a mark, eventually, at the ATF on other fronts.

I don't have access yet to the ruling, but the judge did include "stocks" as well as braces in his adecision on the second amendment affirmation of these appurtenances. That might be a nice wedge with which to break off at least a part of the National Firearms Act.

    Here is the quote:
"Users directly advance these fundamental ends of self-defense when they modify “lawfully bearable pistols” with a “rearward attachment—whether as a brace or a stock.” "

    My emphasis.

Tom Grieve has the most concise explanation of the latest. 9 minute mark he explains the 2A possible involvement in the ruling.

It's long past time for the legislature to actually write decent legislation, instead of creating unelected administrative bureaucracies to do the dirty work, while they shelter behind obfuscation, hypocrisy and weasel-worded vague ill-written deliberately vague bills whose main purpose is to shield the individual legislators from bearing any responsibility for their actions.

All that may be assuming a level of competence on their part that doesn't actually exist. Based on the ill-informed discussions I've heard at MGA committee hearings, I wouldn't trust most of those half-wits to properly transpose a recipe for making hot water.

That’s putting it mildly. The Federal law is clearer. The big headaches are with how ATF applies it. And the elephant in the room - the deliberate slow-rolling of NFA paperwork.
