House Republicans passed a resolution that would repeal a Biden administration rule tightening federal regulations on stabilizing braces for firearms, an accessory that has been used in several mass shootings in the U.S. over the last decade.

The resolution passed 219-210 on party lines and after a contentious floor debate where Republicans accused the administration of “executive overreach” and Democrats condemned a bill they said would “help kill people.”

If they actually cared or if it was a real priority it would have been attached to must pass legislation.

The Republicans knew this would not become law when they passed it. As said above, it should have been attached to "must pass" legislation. They only did this so they could say that they tried. There was never any intention of it becoming law.

I also don't see them doing things that would truly change any of these things. The most timely example...why isn't Christopher Wray in a cell in the Capitol?

Sad but true. The Republicans never know how to legislate once they get into office. The Demonrats however, understand well how to insure the allegiance of the feeble minded, lazy people, perverts and illegal aliens by pushing laws and money their way. If the GOP did attach something like this to a “must pas” bill in hopes that Schumer doesn’t simply kill it in the senate or in reconciliation, then they’ll simply do the same with something we find as unacceptable as they find anything pro-2A. Then both get stripped off in reconciliation, and we’re back where we started. If it were that easy, the Dems would flood us with intolerable provisions on every important bill. They don’t, because we can kill their provisions as easily as they can kill ours.

Truly must-pass bills are very few and far between. If they’re turned into arms races over topics (like pistol braces) that have essentially a microscopic constituency compared to a jillion other issues, then nothing would get done because of all the strange choices of hills to die on.

There’s a reason killing this in court is the better choice, and actually results in a better long term return to proper checks and balances both practically and philosophically.

In states where the Republicans are in power they have done a lot of things to prevent this kind of left-wing bullcrap from happening. Unfortunately until the Republicans retake power in Congress and the White House is not a whole lot they can do about it on a federal level but at least right now the Democrats would be hard-pressed to pass any law affirming or supporting this kind of crap

The more Congress is gridlocked the better. The less either party is able to do, the less they can collectively hurt us all. Besides, the Republicans had the Presidency, majority in the House, and Senate, and we conservatives just got a whole lot of butkus.

We did have all three, but we never had enough in the senate to get around Schumer's ability to block things. Just like they can't get around our ability now. It's hard to imagine the circumstances - as we are now - that would give either party 60 seats in the senate.

It's almost like legislation has to be written for a decent reason that most people can get behind. How about that.

And if would have been killed off by the Dems in reconciliation in a split second. It's not as simple as just tacking something on, and then Schumer has no choice but to allow it to get signed into law. Doesn't work like that. The only way some parasitical tacked-on, unrelated thing like that can survive being bolted on to a vital bill is when the other side also takes the occasion to attach something else that we absolutely otherwise wouldn't tolerate. Then the game is on. Which holy grail of lefty wish list items would you accept being written into law so we could get the braces dealt with just a little bit faster than dealing with them in court?

There is zero chance of anything the Dems don't want getting passed into law, period. Anything. Because Schumer can stop any and every bill in the senate, just like we can.

The only reason to do the virtue-signaling style bills is to force people against them to go on the record voting against them. That allows you, in a later political ad, to show that your opponent voted against (for example) the 2A in some way. It's not a useless exercise in that respect, and both sides do it for that reason.
