I am putting together my AR15 9mm upper. Everything is good accept for the forward assist. The pin is a pain in the a**. I used a punch down tool with a mallet (bronze) and the pin won't go in. I said f**k it and grabbed my pliers to pull the pin out. Upon pulling out the pin, it broke in half since it was stuck. Sorry for being long winded but could I use my upper without forward assist until my forward assist pin comes in?

Does your bolt carrier have notches in it for a FA?

Does the bolt carrier even have serrations for the forward assist to engage? I’ve seen some pistol caliber ARs not have a functioning forward assist as the bolt carrier isn’t serrated.

As said…it’s not required from a functional aspect.

If no, then beat the pin out from the other side and just plug the hole up with one of these...

No serrations, so knock the broken pin out from the opposite direction and go with the plug I linked to. Easy breezy.

So you're using an AR 15 lower with an adapter to accept 9mm mags correct? The upper is a 9mm upper receiver and barrel correct? I'm surprised the upper has a forward assist but in any case the clown is right about referring to it as an AR 9.

The nomenclature you are using is confusing. Is this a build from the ground up? Did you get a stripped upper and put a 9mm barrel in it? You have a 9mm bolt. Was the lower stripper for .223/5.56 and you are using a mag well insert or endo mags? Is it a dedicated 9mm lower? Maybe some more pics?

The lower is for .233, 300, 5.56. The mag endomag.
