Just updated my info on the form.

Strange thing is I never got the HQL after being in Annapolis back in 2013. I refused to get it and I already had my hand guns prior to that. Now that I finally have a HGP I figure it is time to get a compact for carry. I am also a designated collector. Post HGP my HQL has been hung up in the system. I know it has only been 3 days, but after a month and a half of waiting, I am very much looking to kick off the additional 7 days of waiting for my new carry guns.

Hey so I have a question. How long is the average time from approved to in hand?

Because I was at the range today and one of the guys was talking about how he has been waiting to get in the mail for over a month and the others were all acting as if that is normal these days, also there was someone a few post back mentioning how long they have been waiting. How long does it normally take? I had assumed it would only take a couple days or maybe a week for it to works it's way through the postal system to your mailbox?

It was either never sent, or it was lost in the mail. The problem is the MSP will not even begin to entertain the thought that the USPS could have lost it, they keep feeding me the same line that I will get it at some point. They are definitely not telling me to wait 30 days from approval and they will issue me a new permit. I even told them okay, hypothetically if I never receive it then what would be the next course of action. That's when they said "call back in March." At this point they are telling me I need to wait 53 days from approval to even begin the process of being issued another HGP. I will also say when I have called or written emails to the MSP I have not been nasty or confrontational at all. They just refuse to help me or even look up my application number to check their system for the current status.

By law the MSP has 90 days and at the end of that time you can take them to court which will cost money and take more time. Since the Licensing Division has already since Bruen issued well over 80,000 permits the most likely conclusion is the United States Post Office has lost your permit and your beef is with them not with MSP. As I mentioned several other people on this forum have had the same problem, I was not one of them but I tried to give you my best recollection of their experience. You might want to go back over the past posts and verify what I remembered was correct.

I started this thread and have looked at every single post in this thread as well as several other threads dealing with the permit process. There have been several issues in the permitting process since Bruen that have effected the process for instance the MSP apparently had an issue with the card printer early on that delayed everyone, including me, for a week or two. At the height of the wave the time from acceptance to approval was over 60 days and the projected time line had everyone looking at what to do when it exceeded the 90 days allowed by law.

I am writing this for for all the new people who have recently applied for their WC&T permits because in spite of the problems the MSP has encountered in almost overnight ramping up a system that had been processing 12,000 to 14,000 permits per year to one that is processing well in excess of 100,000 per year they have met the challenge and so far overcame all the problems and obstacles. Give credit to the Licensing Division they have done an outstanding job under difficult circumstances.

If you think you are encountering problems with the system take some time to look for the answers because with over 80,000 permits processed most problems have been already encountered and solutions found and results posted. So before calling and tying up a person who could be processing applications take the time to look for the answers. Approval letter said 7 to 14 days.

Don’t get discouraged it’s just so many post asking the same questions where a “search” may answer the questions asked.

I was approved 1/24/23 and I figured minimum of a week to receive. Just checked mailbox and it arrived while I was out deer hunting yesterday! Postmarked 1/26 and it arrived 1/28.
