    200K Effin awesome!!!!!!!!!

    As I understand it, the 200K includes renewals and their dead permit numbers.

    Is there a way to determine the actual number of active permit holders?

    Not to my knowledge. I have not heard the term "dead permit numbers". Not sure what that refers to.
    The permit numbers increased sequentially as permits were approved. The earliest numbers issued (that MDS tracked) post Bruen was in the 42K range in June/July 2022. Mine was approved in Aug and is the 47K range. So by that logic, there were approximately 160K permits approved in 18 months or so. We do know that before Bruen, there were approx 50k active permits "in the system" according to SGT Pickles.

    As I understand it, when someone renews their permit, they receive a new permit number. Their old permit number is not reused - these are the ones I refer to as "dead permit numbers". If this is correct, every permit number doesn't correlate to an active permit.

    Good to know. I don't think enough time has passed since Bruen to include many, if any, dead numbers for people that got permits post Bruen. I know there have been G&S renewals in the 160K number. Mine expires in 25. It would be interesting to find out the break down.
    @swinokur any idea?

    That would be APPLICATION numbers, not permit numbers. APP numbers are assigned when you start an app. Permit numbers are issued when the app is approved. They are 2 different numbers. See below from the posting above. APP numbers reset to zero (?) every year, permit numbers seem to continue on with just the year (first 2 digits) changing.
