    AGC February Newsletter

Dear AGC Badge Holders and Subscribers,

With a mild winter it continues to be very busy at the range, lots of events, tons of newcomers to the sport, and lots of fun. It has been a good kickoff to the year with steady and consistent badge sales since November. We at AGC really appreciate all the renewals and new members, and we hope everyone is enjoying the range. Given all this activity we are actively recruiting for new RSO’s to work the weekend shifts. If you are interested, please either email us or come see us at the Barnes range house, pay starts at $17 an hour.

Additionally, AGC is working on several projects and range improvements. We are currently investigating Trap Netting, updates to our member management systems, improved credit card processing, new grills, and solar projects that will improve the range experience. Please let us know if there are other things you’d like to see.

    Trustee Meeting News
February 7th was our Trustees meeting where we discuss the business of running the range, collect Club feedback, and go over finances and operating business. Here is a quick summary of the topic items from that meeting.
    • Discussed the Calendar and Volunteer policies. Volunteers and event organizers need to make sure the hours are logged in the badge app and verified so volunteers get the correct credit for time worked.
    • 15 Year and Life Member policy updates. AGC is requesting these badge holders come in and present a valid 2023 Club card and receive a free badge sticker for 2023.
    • Still looking for a volunteer to Chair the Employee Affairs Committee. If you want to help out AGC and know a little about HR please contact me.

    Maryland 2A News
The de facto ban on concealed carry SB1 continues to make noise in the Maryland legislative session. Along with a few additional anti-gun bills. Head over to our friends at 2AMarlyand and Maryland Shall Issue and get educated on the current bills before the Maryland House and Senate.

    Upcoming Events at the Range
Want to try something new? Experience a new shooting discipline, find a new hobby you enjoy, find that perfect reason to buy a new gun or range gear? Try out one of these upcoming events, meet some awesome people, and have some fun.
    • Saturday February 18th 8am to 3pm – Arlington Rifle and Pistol Club has a steel plate pistol shoot. Haven’t rung steel in a awhile, come on out and enjoy this event.
    • Wednesday February 22nd 6pm to 9pm – AGC 5 Stand Event. Need a new shotgun challenge, or just want to try something new and different, come check out this exciting shotgun sport.
    • Saturday March 4th Noon to 4:30 – Stemmers Run is holding a Bowling Pin Pistol shoot. Haven’t shot your pistol in a while, come out and enjoy this event.

    Shooting Disciplines
There are over a thousand scheduled events on the AGC Events Calendar for tons of disciplines, meet ups, and fun shoots. Maybe you haven’t attended one of these events because you just don’t know what it is. Here are the event highlights for the month.
    • Check out the full Action shooting events Calendar for 2023. Pick an event and come and enjoy some fun.

    Range Rule Highlights
Everyone should take a minute and focus on the basics during cease fires. Actions open, magazines out, safety on, empty chamber indicator inserted, and behind the white line. Always double check your stuff, and help your neighbors remember as well. We know it is fun to be out with friends and sometimes we get distracted, always double check your kit and make sure it is in a safe condition. Empty chamber indicators can be purchased at the Barnes range house if you don’t have one, or you forget one. Our suggestion is to not use a bent screwdriver but to be a big spender and get that plastic ECI.

    Final Thoughts
Please stop shooting the archery targets with broadheads, it is not very sporting, those poor targets just don’t stand a chance against them. Also please remember all rounds need to hit the impact berm, we spend good money to cut the grass and don’t need any “additional” help. Also, just a reminder to my big bore brothers, please don’t setup your Barret M104A1 in front of the Barnes house it rattles the windows and makes it unpleasant inside. As always courtesy and respect for others makes the world a better place, and it allows AGC to spend more of its dollars on range improvements and more fun stuff for everyone to enjoy.

Just a reminder 2023 AGC Range badge renewals are available now. Check out the AGC Online store or come see us in person.

Have fun out there, and as always, I’ll see you on the range.

    Yours,
    Matt Watchinski, AGC President
