My CZ52 sometimes has issues with 9mm and it seems to be magazine related. 9mm is shorter than tok ammo so the cases don’t stack and feed well. The mags are basically a straight stack no angle. I was thinking of welding a spacer on the back of some astra 600 mags but these have gone up in price. Any other straight 9mm mags the MDS brain trust can think of that may be a good candidate for modification.

(Astra mag has holes, CZ has slits) overall they are very close in dimensions/angle.

Ya they do, my friend had one and they’re very close to CZ52 mags. Do you know if the spring in the tok mags is the full width of the mag. If i block the inside of a CZ52 mag I need to make a new follower and use a different spring. I would imagine the Tok mags would have the same issues since they were designed for a longer cartridge.

I have a Star Model B and it’s a 9mm single stack, however, those mags are also pricey.
The common factor is both mags are especially a straight stack no rake. Sometimes I wish I could just leave things the way they are but I see a problem and I want to solve it. I’ve never had feed issues with my astra 600 mags so thinking they may be a good candidate but trying to see if there’s other options out there I’m not aware of.

Been a long time but I think a model 39 spring got used in one....can't remember for sure. Helped a buddy install one (I tig welder the spacer in the back).

I just found it easier to back the seating die out and run the 9mm at a longer COAL. 145 and 147gr seem to run better.

I’m not reloading 9mm but that’s not a bad idea.

It was just easier to do that than tinker with magazines. Think 9x21 or 9x23. About same length as 7.62 tokarev.

I can't remember if I ever tested it but the 158 fiocchi 9 load would probably be money. It is round nosed and thus longer than most commercial 147s as they are rnfp or tc profile.

Tokarevs have been altered to work with 9mm. Chinese 213 is one but the magazine is likely too short to fit in the CZ52. If the Yugo M57 magazine is the right length note that Zastava made the M70aa in 9mm. ZastavaArmsUSA has new 9mm magazines for sale. The part number and the cost is different between the 9mm M70 and 7.62 M57 magazines. Perhaps order one and see if they did something to make 9mm work?

Great idea! I’ll keep it in mind only 2 sites selling them right now.

Range update coming tomorrow M70AA mags ordered and a 5mm spacer glued to the back of the magazine. If it works well I’ll get some metal and weld it up.

Well the glue didn’t hold, and failed after 3shots. I got some steel at Home Depot and welded up one of the mags. Not the most pretty but fits well.

    range update

I ran 100 rounds through the magazine today and 0 issues. I’ll be working on two more. Very happy with the results.

    Glad it worked.
So to be clear you got M70aa Zastava mags, welded a spacer on them and they work well in a converted CZ52 9mm?
