Strange , I was just looking at an 8mm Pinfire Revolver today .

And .32 Rimfire has potential for a comeback . At least more than the .17HMR , and the barely revived 5mm rimfire .

In Maryland we could use .32 rimfire in < 29” SBRs.

Developed by Federal to have ~90% of ballistic capability in HST of 9mm HST.

Smaller case diameter allows for 3 more rounds in a Shield Plus.

The pressure is too high to work in an LCP 380 sized gun.

So... limited appeal to a MD resident like myself when taking into consideration the 10 round mag limit (I don't want my advanced-design magazines to be "modified" with wood and glue and I don't want to trek out of state to buy higher capacity mags when I already have 2 10's in 9mm).

    YMMV

Wonder if a 9mm mag would feed it reliably. Its the same OAL as 9mm. Case diameter isn't terribly smaller in diameter. All it might take is a new barrel in a P365...

I was trying to be subtle about it , but absolutely !

Smokeless era .32 Long Rimfire was a 90gr bullet at same velocities as standard velocity .22lr . Taking into consideration the weight & cross sectional area , nothing to sneeze at .

With modern technology , a no brainer to bump up to equivalent to " normal high velocity " .22lr , say an extra 200 fps . Aka 300 plus ft lb.

FWIW , I was also looking at an antique .32 rimfire revolver today . A probably an unmarked Belgian knockoff of a S&W No 1 1/2 .

If you're interested in them , they're at GLR Enterprises , former IP .

It will be facing the same uphill marketing challenges as the .32 Mag and .327 Federal .

Ballistically ( such ctgs ) can be close to , or in the case of the
327 . better than the traditional ctgs they're competing , but for Joe Blow Average Buyer , there is strong perception that Bigger ( diameter ) is Better . ( And it *usually * is , but that's a bold statement and big debate of its own .)

30 SC sorta makes sense for the Shield EZ - taking it from 8+1 to 10+1 of a lighter-than-9mm recoiling cartridge that's way superior to 380 in a gun already aimed at novice or less-strong shooters.

I would say that you may be correct. The shield ez is a niche gun to start with and it won't be used as a range toy so it may well fly. Only time will tell.

I bought a .380 EX for my wife so I won't be looking at them. However, I probably would have bought one if it came out before the .380 version did.

That's definitely their approach , and as good as any , as far as it goes . But it needs to be joined by a regular size M&P also .

    History Lesson :

Before WWII , about 1/3 of production of S&W M&P Hand Ejectors ( later known as M10 ) were Not in .38Spl , but rather .32WCF aka .32-20 . Likewise similar numbers of competing Colt DA Revolvers .

Nearly same terminal effect ( at least the RNL .38Spl of the day) , somewhat less recoil , flatter trajectory , better penetration , made them popular with Outdoorsmen , farmers, ranchers , and hunters not needing the power of a .44 .

Being offered in full size gun for utility / field / hunting of small and medium game and varmints , would help establish the sucuess of the * Cartridge * . ( Yes , the .30SC is essentially a HV .32-20 , adapted to Semiauto use .)

    Very interesting - thanks.
