Has anyone Shot the new Smith & Wesson the 30 Super? What's the purpose for this caliber?

    .30 Super Carry

The performance of a 9mm in a smaller cartridge to increase magazine capacity.

At twice the price of 9mm, the purpose is a specialty cartridge to separate you from your money.

The cartridge looks like an awesome idea. The ammo is surprisingly available on shelves. All that's left is for gun makers to take advantage of the design to either make guns with the same capacity of something like a p365, but thinner, or the same size with more capacity. A g43xmos with shield mags that hold 17-18 shots of super carry would kick so much ass.

I just heard about this round, did a search and found this thread. I missed it the first time. Seems pretty interesting. Yeah, more companies need to support it (chicken and egg problem.) Would love a thinner P365 w/ the same number of rounds.

I think the same thickness with more rounds is a lot more likely.
    Life is about trade-offs.

Right now I'm watching it but not about to buy one. Right now it is available as a higher capacity option for the micro-9s. I'm happy with my 10 round flush mags and 12 round extended mags in my 9mm P365.

What I want to see is for it to be put into small .380 pocket gun sized guns. An LCP or similar gun in a caliber that can get both adequate pentatration and expansion would make me very happy.

Right now, guns and ammo availability is pretty limited, so even more than above, I want to see more companies making guns and ammo in it to reassure me that it isn't going to become yet another hard to find caliber that is always threatening to go out of production.

Before you buy one of these things, do some research on what happened to the .41AE, .45 GAP, .357 Sig, .327 Federal and 9x25 Dillon. Yes there are some guns out there in these calibers but ammo availability is spotty and prices are high.

Since the 9x19 guns have shrunk, many who would have carried small .380's have opted for the 9x19. The 30 Super Carry has come at the wrong time and will probably not have a strong following.

I have actually seen really cheap .30 Super Carry ammo here lately, I was shocked ($16-17 a box of 50!) I think it could be an interesting round, but I think it is failing to catch on at all and will be a novelty in a year, maybe two.
Perhaps the last gasp will be a revolver chambered for it.
If you buy one, get a crapload of ammo, dies and brass…

This. If it had come along say 10 years ago, it would probably be quite popular but with all of the micro nines I don’t see it lasting.

As a small carry gun , it will only make minor inroads on micro nines .

I would like one as a full size- ish field gun .

It was a accident of timing that .41AE didn't become what the .40 S&W became .

.45GAP coulda been big , if only Springfield had gone ahead with it in their micro 1911 that was literally designed around it . They even circulated gunwriter samples of it in .45gap , and was well reviewed . But alas , the gun was put into production only in 9x19 .

    9x25 was a niche stunt .

.400 CorBon might have had a future , if anyone had offered it in a production gun .

To the forgotten list add .25NAA and .32NAA.
