Thoughts on this as a first crossbow? not expecting ten point or excalibur quality but I'm thinking about getting this as my first.

I'd be all over it! A friend of mine has one similar from Dicks and loves it.

You dont need to spend big money on a X bow. I picked mine up a few years back and was out the door with the bow, red dot, quiver and 3 bolts for $500. Its harvested ~ 30-40 deer.

Hunting devices don't have to be expensive to perform properly.

I kill the hell out of things with H&R rifles and shotguns.

yes sir, shot it quite a few times and have been out hunting with it once. almost had a doe at 20 yards but she was hauling ass. i love the thing, its a little loud but fast as hell. going to do some research on sound dampers for it. i seriously cannot wait to get a deer with it!
