223 cast mold

I have been slowly transitioning to all cast bullets and self sufficient ammo stuff. I wasn't even a reloader until 2020 happened and said WTF, new hobby time. I ordered stuff for 6.8 SPC for Christmas and the wife told me I didn't spend enough money and need to buy more.

So MP mold has several 227 molds and I am not sure which one to buy and looking for some advice am what to buy. Or which one would be best. I like heavy bullets.

They have six cavity, aluminum, molds, GC'd and in 65 and 75 grain.
They also have the 63 grain, 3 cavity brass mold. But it is out of stock right now.

I really love casting with brass. It holds the heat better, pour, rest mold, break 20 seconds and dump. Aluminum is more faster paced to keep it hot.

What would you do, or get?

I use the Lee 55 gr. mold myself. It does the job. Just make sure you use gas checks - anything over 1,500 FPS should have a gas check.

Gas check on every rifle round and I haven't done the ladder chart yet, but I'm likely to start at 2000 and push it up to max for comparison.

You've got me interested in that 63/65gr mold. I am still not ready to jump into casting my own bullets, but I like doing stupid things, and I've really wanted to try subsonic 223 loads. Is there much juice there? Of course not. 22lr is basically the same. Then again, if I can cast my own 63gr HP subs in something soft, I'd imagine it'll still shoot a little flatter and hit a little harder for a 63gr at around 1000-1050fps than a 45gr at 950-1000fps. I am sure no real difference but in my head there would be. And I love reloading.

Though what I really want to try are some 6.5 HP cast subsonic bullets. See if my Howa will stabilize them. That I imagine would have some juice to the squeeze.

I have not gone HP in the rifles yet and only in Pistols. When you say soft, what BHN are you referring too? Pure lead in pistols sub sonic is off after 10 yards and 11bhn air cooled is pretty good and expands well. I made some half/half alloy and cast some but it hasn't been dry enough to powder coat and load them to test them yet. I posted all that on here under 9mm if you want to read it.

I would imaging rifles might make it even worse, but sub sonic should be just like pistols. Maybe an 11bhn would work, but I can't test 9mm long range and my rifle loads are all supers. I'm not worried about people hearing me shoot out here.

What would you do, or get?

I own about four MP molds. One thing I haven't figured out yet is what alloy he uses as mine all drop light. Pretty much they are 3 to 4 grains light than advertised. That said, he makes nice molds and they shoot well.

Mine are all heavy. I just cast 278 125 grains yesterday with my WW mix which is about an 11bhn and they dropped at 135+ and the 30.06 loads I did were to be 165 and where 173.
