-Quite some time ago we had a thread filled with pump .22s, started at a time when I had nothing in the collection to share. That's all it took to wind me up to research and find a nice example. The goal was simple; find a 20's or earlier vintage pump .22 with an octagonal barrel. While I'm a big Winchester fan I fell in love with the elegant lines of John Pederson's Model 12 series he designed for Remington. So that was the choice. So much so that I found and bought a nice Lyman tang sight for it, well before the rifle came along. Not the first time I've put the cart before the horse!
-I focused on the 12C and 12CS, chambered for the .22 LR and Remington .22 Special respectively, but wasn't having much in the way of luck. Then this nice, rarer .22 Short-only 12B comes along and I'm smitten. It was a bit of a battle as I wasn't the only one interested in it as they're very hard to find. Doubly so in good or better grading. Got it for a decent price, this one wasn't going to be bargain bragging fodder.
-The serial number puts the production year as 1926 with the Model 12 production ranging from 1909 to 1938. About 830,000 Model 12s were produced over a 28 year period, one of Remington's best selling models of all time. I love the simple breakdown procedure, just undo the receiver take-down screw. Makes cleaning and transport easy. Looking forward to trying this puppy with the Lyman sight. Right now I'm waiting for Kroil to loosen the two tight receiver screws so I can get the sight mounted.
