Hopefully I am posting this is the right place.
I have an ATI M1911GI with Fixed Iron Sights. I am wanting to know how I can make improvements on it.
I read somewhere that I could paint the front sight with a bright color neon nail polish and open up the rear sight notch .010" wider by removing .005" from each side with a needle file.
Has anyone out there have heard or done this ?
Your thoughts wood be deeply appreciated.

I’ve been down this route. Young eyes it works. Consider a 10-8 rear hardball sight (or a Colt 1991 or Springer Mil-Spec takeoff rear and a matching MGW front post or improved ramp sight. Better for older eyes, speed, and even makes younger eyes appreciate the higher visibility.

If your interested in painting , I can give the Testors product numbers . ( Too lazy to get up and walk to other room on speculation ) .

    But what Magnumite said .

Do you want authentic ( tiny) sights of 1911- 1945 configuration on purpose ? Or have similar but better sights ?

The Colt 1991 type ( and similar ) are enough bigger to be usable by most people . And still " look " like stock sights from 10 feet away , to everybody except vintage Colt collectors .
