Volquartsen is a really good trigger. I have a Volquartsen complete gun and it has been very reliable and accurate, A friend recently bought a drop in trigger and is very pleased with his purchase.

I run Kidd triggers in my three (so far) competition 10/22s. It is hard to imagine a better solution for shooting fast and accurate. I've shot VQ TG2000s, and while I'd hardly call them a poor choice, Kidd has eclipsed them.

That said, a BX trigger or a Brimstone trigger job will net you some pretty substantial gains at a lesser cost. If it's just a bench plinker, that may be enough.

I have owned a lot of 10/22 aftermarket triggers. To me today there are two options.

Cheap/Value Option - send to Brimstone for trigger work

Best Trigger Group - Buy complete trigger group from Kidd

I bought a 10/22 for a couple of hundred bucks from Walmart several years back. I found the idea of spending the cost of the gun on fixing the trigger offensive.

I decided to rework the trigger myself. I decided the main problem with the trigger was the drag of the reset detent. I figured that if I could remove that, the trigger would be a lot better. I disassembled the trigger, removed the detent and installed a modified reset spring I hacked from an AR trigger group. At first it didn't have enough umph to reset the trigger, but with some rework I got it working.

I now have a pretty good trigger on my 10/22 it's very light at about 2 lbs and the break is pretty clean and NO detent.

I went with a BX on my build since I'll only be plinking or shooting steel at >50 yards. I can tell it's not a high quality trigger, but I don't need it to be.

I've never tried one, but I hear KIDD triggers are amazing. That's what I'd go with for a precision or competition build.

I run Kidds on all three of my competition 10/22s. They're fantastic. If I ever build another from scratch, it'll have a Kidd.

Really doesn't surprise me. I built my current 10/22 from the ground up. It's got a KIDD bolt, charging handle and Ultralight threaded barrel. I would have done their receiver too had I not gone with the Fletcher 11/22.

I'm glad Brownells sells their stuff now. I bought everything during their recent 15% parts sale. Getting KIDD parts for those prices almost felt like stealing.

My 10/22 steel challenge/SASP builds are almost universally like this:
    1. Ruger receiver
    2. Kidd trigger group
    3. Wiland ultralight barrel
    4. Adjustable tension V-block (to fix barrel droop)
    5. Kidd bolt (lightened if necessary by Wiland for reliability)
    6. Wiland ultralight chassis
    7. MSP see-through rail (unless the reflex sight mount can go on the receiver)
    8. Either Wiland irons or a reflex sight of some sort
    9. Stock 10/22 buffer

Super light and they shoot like laser beams. If I had time, I'd love to do a build for NRL22 or MARS and shoot for distance/accuracy, but not really in the cards to do those competitions with my current situation.

Exactly what I was thinking as I was reading this thread. I have a Volquartsen trigger group in my 10/22 and my memory is that I am not all too happy with it. Thing is, I have not shot that gun in about a decade. Now, I want to shoot it, see if I am alright with the Volquartsen trigger, and if not, purchase a Kidd.

Next time I’m in your area, I’ll try to bring by a Kidd 10/22 for you to check out. They’re the best 10/22 trigger out there as far as I’m concerned.
