Thoughts on the caliber? No clue about it. Just a longer .32?

    Feel like getting a revolver.

It's probably one of the few modern calibers that I don't own (yet). Beefed up .32. You can shoot the .327, .32 mag, .32 S&W long, and .32 S&W out of it. I'm not sure if you can shoot 7.62 Nagant out of it or not.

Edit... now that I think about it Nagant is probably way to long to chamber in a .327.

So it's probably a "friendlier" revolver caliber to shoot more than 5 rounds at the range without killing your hand?

Get it in .22 LR or .357 mag. Availability and ammo cost trump everything unless it's .357 sig...

I don't like .22 revolvers. Man, I dunno. My local place has this and a Colt Delta Elite they just got in. I've tried trimming my ammo down to 9mm and .45, but..... ugh

    I also want a S&W 625 Miculek .45 revolver. I'm a mess. LOL

I actually got my first SP101 this year. Mine chambers 357 Magnum and has a 3-inch barrel. It has some sharp edges, machining marks, a stiffer double action pull, and a so so extractor rod, but I really like the gun. It's proportions are right for me, it is comfortable in a behind the back outside the belt holster, and it feels like a solid piece of iron. 38 Specials are very comfortable to shoot from it, and mid powered 357 Magnums weren't bad (bigger boom, but didn't feel snappier than 9x18 out of a Makarov). I'm super happy with this purchase. Got the gun at a great price new ($450 out the door) and spent $50 on slightly nicer grips. I also spent $12 on new springs to change the single and double action pulls (although the single action felt fine to me and I was able to get consistent center mass hits on a target 25 yards away).

I realize that you probably still have your LCR in 38 Special and wish to avoid redundancy, so 327 mag could be neat. I'm sure it would do the job at close range.

Gratuitous pics of my recent pick up below.

I like the idea of the caliber, but it hasn't seemed to gain wide acceptance and it's been on the market several years now. The last time I priced it out it was comparable price per round to .357 mag, so I stuck with that.

I have had .32 H&R mags of all sorts but I reload. At one time, I had planned to convert my S&W Model 16 to .327 Federal but didn't see enough support for the round. Most of the .32 mags and .327's were chambered for six rounds. You can download a 38 spl and do the same thing. There isn't much difference, if any, in the size of the revolver.

I've read a little about the .327, and it's promising. "Almost" .357 Mag power but less muzzle blast. Unfortunately, it's like a lot of other 'new' calibers; promising ballistics but hard to find at many local gun stores, and iffy future. That said, if price isn't a problem (or you reload), it would be a fun caliber to play with. Especially in a strong revolver like the Ruger.

I like that you get an extra cartridge (6 vs 5), and I like novelty of it, different is interesting.

Thought the biggest benefit would be significantly less recoil, but from most report I'm hearing, it's still pretty 'snappy', so says this gent too:

Oh, and one more thing... 3" barrel, seems about right on paper. But in reality its too long for deep concealment or pocket carry, and if you can't do that, you might as well go 4" or greater. Ballistics get better too in the longer barrels.

Aesthetically, I think 4-5" is about perfect, looks great, and much better balance in most revolvers.

And for the opposing view :

I really like 3in bbl on small frame revolvers. Much better balance and sight radius than 2in , well porportioned for the frame size. There is a reason that for 50 plus yrs 3 ( or 3.25) inch I frame and later J frame were the predominant platform for .32 revolvers. Yes, frequently carried a 3in M31 as a BUG . And it's previous owner used it as an ankle gun ( loaded with 90gr swc @ 900fps). Hint- those specs matched the newer .32Mag from that bbl length.

My 4in M30 by contrast is more limited in carry options, doesn't balance nearly as well, and just looks strange. My conclusion was, if you're going to carry a 4in, might as well be a K frame.

The .327 is a very interesting ctg that didn't catch on with its intended market. Most buyers were hopelessly indoctrinated into the concept of " no smaller than .38 bore size " , without apprecating the actual power of full power.327. And the one who did try them, were put off by having more recoil than .38+P . The sweet spot were the " medium load" .327 with just under the recoil of .38spl .

The ctg does have a small niche of fans who like it as a flat trajectory field pistol.

Yes, it would fire .32acp just as well as .32S&W Long and .32mags, albeit with even longer freebore.

    Wonderfully insightful post.

(And Minuteman, no intention to diminish your enthusiasm for considering alternate calibers in general, just appreciate the perspective being shared.)
If you're gonna do this, don't mess around: full pimp, yo.

And now I have something to aspire to! Was telling Blaster that I need to bedazzle my holster for the nickel Python and upgrade my ride as it's totally disrupted my firearm fashion scene.

If I was too subtle, I LIKE .32 Revolvers - .32Long,.32Mag,.32-20 . I would definitely enjoy to have a .327 , one of my few regrets to not find in time for my October Strategy. Someday would like to do a conversion on a beater 3 Screw.

And there really was/ is an unfilled market niche for a ctg particularly for those lighter than air snub nose revolver platforms. Somthing more controlable ( and reasonably pleasant to shoot) than .38spl, yet with effectiveness reasonably close. The .32 Mag came close, but not quite enough velocity. The .327 was overkill for the targeted audience. A .32Mag +P , with say, 85gr jhp @ close to 1100fps would have benn sucuessful .

The .32 Magnum was hamstrung by the fact that it had to be used in H&R revolvers. If it had been made for a solid frame revolver, it would have made for a magnificent cartridge. I could load it up pretty hot in my Buckeye Special Blackhawk.

BTW, Paul Kersey had no problems putting down thugs with a .32 Special.
