I believe you are thinking of rifle length gas, which is at 12”. Last I checked, a mid length gas port is at 9”, or about 3.5” from the muzzle. A 10.5” barrel with carbine length gas has the same. 12.5” mid length with a properly sized port is a great suppressor host for several reasons, but is probably a pretty bad idea unsuppressed unless you have that gas port tuned specifically to the ammo you are using. Even then without a suppressor it would likely be temperature sensitive enough to be annoying, swinging from undergassed to overgassed if set up improperly . Moreso than a 10.5” due to the overall lower pressure and necessarily larger gas port.Wow - and I thought I was pushing it with a 14.5" middy. Isn't that like a 0.5" for dwell time??
Or at least that is my understanding of the situation, clandestine is probably shaking his head in disappointment at yet another dumb build by me haha. All I know is left handed shooter + 12.5” midlength = no gas bukkake and velocities within about 100fps of a typical 14.5” barrel.
