Nice old Fortis I picked up for a song. Still runs well and was obviously well cared for, still has the mirror finish on the back of the casing.

Nice, I am watching one right now. to buy. This one has the black dial. You do not see this often with Roman numeral dial.

I’ve been wearing this since Saturday. It wears very comfortably. The orange on the bezel was originally an awful red, so I removed it and repainted it orange to blend with the dial.

My son is graduating high school. I never thought I’d be the kind of Dad to spoil my kids, as I was made to work hard for most of my wants. For those who don’t know, my son was born early and had a rocky start. He fits the Aspergers diagnostic criteria (before they got rid of it). He’s brilliant, but has been plagued by ADD, OCD, anxiety, and Tourette’s, making his adolescent years very tough on all of us. He is a very moral man, and is of unwavering character. He wants to be a neuropsychopharmacologist, finding treatments for anxiety and depression to help folks like him. He is fascinated by mechanical watches. I got him this. Got a great price. The band is not an original Rolex, but that can be fixed. Sorry for the back story.

Just checking in, how did he enjoy the gift?

Sharing a watch and family heirloom I just received.

A pocket watch with small seconds, manufactured by my grandfather, John C. Dotter.

Of the many watches he sold, he manufactured his own line, which were made with Longines movements fitted to cases and dials with his name. Additionally, he would hand finish many of his pieces.

Here’s one of them, and perhaps the best example that I have. Still runs like a top.

Being surrounded by mechanical watches as a kid solidified by own obsession for watches, specifically Omega watches, a few of which I’ve shared on this thread.

I am unsure of the manufacture date but I believe it is around 1910. If anyone has additional info, please reach out!

Thank you. I have scoured the web for more examples, but have yet to find any.

My dad passed this to me yesterday as a pre-wedding gift. It's been with him since I can remember, and he just recently had it serviced and regulated.

I've got a handful of other mementos and ads from my grandfather's shop, and specifically an add for a Patek Phillipe Minute Repeater for a whopping $20,000....in 1911. Considering what a PP goes for these days, it's no surprise.

Sadly I have very little left in the way of my grandfather's collection, as he was robbed in the 1950's, which ultimately ended his career (this was before business insurance was commonplace). It was a very sad end to a very successful career.

That looks a lot like the Waltham that passed down in my family. My grandfather got it in London back in the '50s on a quick trip for some kind of insurance conference, so not nearly the same history as yours, but important to me all the same.

I also need to get new, better pics...these are from '11:

The crystal was gone when I got the watch; I have no idea when or why it disappeared. By the time I got it, my grandfather was long gone with dementia and couldn't answer any questions. Waltham says it's a model 1908, 17 jewels adjusted, P.S. Bartlett movement. The case is 9 ct and appears to be rose gold and was made by Dennison Watch Case Company.

It does look very similar. The case looks almost identical, so it wouldn't surprise me if they are from the same company.

As far as the movement, they certainly look different, and I know for a fact that this is a Longines.

We do have a number of old Waltham's in the family, though. Similar to the one you shared.

    Thanks for sharing!

Wow, you do not see these beautiful pieces quite often anymore. A J. C. Dotter with a Longines Caliber 18.80 pocket watch movement and a Waltham with the Patten Sargeant Bartlett 16s movement. Replacement crystal for your Waltham are still available. It is easy to accidentally damage the hands or the face without the crystal.
