Heading down to Sparrows Point HS in the morning for the duck blind lottery. Hard to believe it's getting to be that time again already

    My Second Year

Last year was my first time out in a blind after many years of wanting to go out. My soon to be father-in-law took me out with his friends goose hunting 7 times last season and I fell in love. Its been a great bonding experience for us. Got my own shotgun a couple months ago (Winchester SX4) and can't wait to take it out. Looking forward to following this thread.

    Already got my stamps :)

25 days and counting till the opening of Dove season. Still the best way to waste 2 boxes of shells on a few birds, but it helps to get you ready for duck season. Which by the way is 67 days away not that I'm counting.

Lost our dove spot years ago, don’t have a goose spot and we got outbid on our main yearly goose hunt this year, did get one hunt secured so will at least get to use the shorty once.

Since tomorrow is the first day we can go hunting, sound off on: what you're most looking forward to--whether you'll be dove or early goose hunting; what you'll do to keep cool; your anti-inspect game plan (ticks, mosquitoes, chiggers, etc.); how you keep your dog cool in the early season; and/or what you'll try doing differently this year to increase your success.

I'm hunting doves tomorrow for the first time because I have access to a sunflower field and don't have access to a good goose place this year. I'm going to bring a cooler with one frozen water bottle, a gatorade, an iced espresso and a liquid water...and a sandwich and candy bar. I finally broke down and got a Thermacell and I'm also going to wear a lightweight long sleeve shirt, long pants and OFF spray. I'm going to sit in the shade and leave my dog at home for this one. On the increasing success side, I went skeet shooting five or six times over the past couple months. I also got my furbearer permit this year, which is not relevant for this weekend but might come in handy since last year I had foxes coming up to my blind/tree stand a few times and have started seeing coyotes during the day. Oh...and I got a huge container of ear plugs and put a few in every hunting bag/jacket/gun case I own. I really hate shooting without them.

Good luck and be safe everyone!

Need to get my hunting license and stamps. Been too busy with work and a 4yo though. Once I've got those in hand though, it'll be early season canoe trips down the Monocacy as time allows.

Anyone hunt geese/duck west of Hagerstown? I've tried a couple times but would love some pointers.

I just moved to Wv. Used to hunt southern Md and the shore. If you'd like some advice just shoot me a PM. I'm just outside of Charles Town, so not too far away. I've taken a bunch of folks from here to a lease a used to have for duck/goose hunts.
