Picked this up off Gunbroker for what I thought was a song. Serial number puts it in at 1973, came with the original owners manual, box and the cardboard sleeve. Looks like it just shipped from the factory, I doubt it was shot more than a few times. Now to get time to get her to the range.

    They are great revolvers.

And the only ones I would ever trust in a self defense situation. Should modern handguns become banned one day.

    Congrats on your fine purchase.

Nice one! We Hooligans want to see that pistol at the range very soon.

Looks to me like there were some Hooligans shooting 1858 Remington Army's this morning. My bet is I can find more pics of other range days where we all had them in our hands... ;)

It's no wonder why the air quality at the range has declined lately...

What caliber is yours? Are there conversion cylinders available for the Old Armys?

I did some Googling and answered my own question. Even though it's billed as a .44, there are conversion cylinders available in both 45 and 45ACP. They run $250-$300+/-.Enjoy!

And you will want a base pin.

Lee made a special mold for the Ruger Old Army and Richard Lee talks about it in Modern Reloading see page 201.

Buff, I will make you a loading block for your new toy. I tested out a couple of ones that I made yesterday and they work really well. I am going to get some nice brass hinges instead of "junk drawer" hinges. :party29:

Way cool, I'll be in your debt. Now to just get up with you before hunting season. :party29:

That looks nice. I'd love to get a BP revolver to play with. Looks like Ruger no longer makes these? Are the Pietta 1858's any good?

Got a .45acp conversion cylinder for my Ruger Old Army, so awesome and works great with 230 grain ball ammo!

I bought one in '75 and used it for deer hunting that season. Great shooters but heavy man, heavy.

The Rugers are in a different class than the Pietta's and Uberti's.

Ruger took the pattern of the Army cap and ball revolver and re-engineered it to make a modern design using things like coil springs. The Pietta and Uberti are basically the original designs, flat springs etc., but made with modern materials.

    You need both.:D

Now you need the .45 Colt cylinder to give you more ammo choices (works with either .45 Long colt or .45 Schofield (aka .45 Smith & Wesson)).:innocent0

I am known as a BAD influence.
