Does anyone have information regarding how I can determine the date of my old Smith and Wesson revolver? One of mine is a model 36 with serial 381XXX.

that range is mid 60s I beleive . Ill get back to you if I can narrow it down .

Stupid question - is it the # on the but end of the revolver or beneath when you open the cylinder? They are different numbers.

Serial # is on the butt . The number stamped inside the crane and under the grip are tracking numbers, so you can get matching gun parts back together after being finished.

thanks - I bought her from a good friend - it was his father-in-law's. I paid $200.00. She is one of my GF's fav revolvers to shoot - prob 1000 rounds through her (from us).
