So Freds has changed their policy you no longer have to buy their ammo to shot your gun at the indoor range. But if you rent one of their guns then you purchase their ammo starting Jan. 16th. Max two shooters per lane 25.per hour 75. for monthly membership

That is good news. They do have some good deals there at times and they usually offer a gift card good towards a free 1hour range visit with purchase of a firearm.

I have used their range and it is ok, nice electronic target controls/retrieval.... but lighting is not very uniform across all lanes or distances. I prefer an outdoor setting/ranges, but Fred's is not a bad option to have. I have heard many disparaging comments on this place. YMMV. On the handful of my visits (at their various locations over time), I have found their employee's customer service and friendliness does need some work.

However, hopefully this new policy will also translate into more reasonable and market competitive ammo prices. While I can understand a range may want to strictly control the type and quality of rounds being used, their previous prices were bordering on gouging and greediness.

Good news. I don't mind Myrtle Grove even in the snow, but my wife has a condition that cuts off blood flow to he fingers in the cold. I'll have to take her to Fred's.

I was just in Fred's last Friday and overheard a conversation between a customer and a rather loud talking gentleman working the range. The employee working the range said "no the only bullets shot in my range must come from me so if you need to go to your car and empty your magazines or your pockets then you need to do so now". Maybe I heard wrong but I would double check.

What do you get for the $75 month membership?

Do you still need watch that stupid video and have the card?

Here is a question. I have a 1895 nagant that I want to shoot. I have about 500 rounds of ammo for it. Last time I was at Freds they don't have any and the guy I asked has never heard of it. Intact he looked at me like I had 2 heads when I asked for it. That being said if I go there tonight to. Shoot my nigant what will they say?

You are better off calling them ahead of time to as about shooting your specific gun and ammo.

Also you only have to watch the range safety video once (prior to 1st use). If you have shot there before, Fred’s should have your name on record. You can also watch the video from home but be sure you print out the training certificate at the end.

you would still think the employee would take that moment to advise customer of the upcoming new policy to deescalate things

I agree, my nephew was in there today and he was able to describe the guy to me by saying the guy who spoke incredibly loud for no reason and kinda rude yeah that's the guy.

I like Fred's because it's convenient but the customer service is hit or miss especially for us newbies

I went many years ago (pre fire) and watched the video, went the other day watched the video again just because and the young lady working the range said "oh you're already in our system so you didn't have to watch the video again you should've said something"

You think they would let me shoot my 50 bmg in the range?

What I really want to do is take my girlfriend youngest son (20) to the range so he can shoot a few of my toys.

I want to get him to m.g. where. There isn't any restrictions on size but it has been too cold and nasty he goes back to college in a few weeks.

Nawwww.....that would be too much like the right thing to do. I am so glad to be out of the Soviet Socialist Republic of MD. Miss my friends and got some family left there. Glad you guys have an indoor facility that you can shoot at, even if their is a lot of BS that goes with it.
Down here in sunny Fl, 3 indoor, one outdoor with a 200 yard rifle range within half hour drive. 5 Indoor if you extend it to a 1hr drive. For a gun owner and shooter, its like gun heaven. Plus when you walk outside of the air conditioned range, its like 75 degrees.....in the winter. :party29::party29:

I was joking about the 50. Only a few ranges are able to handle that kind of round.

When there was the one over by dmv in the roofing company building. They would get nervous when I would shoot my 375jdj handgun there. I had to download it and use cast bullets.

The only rounds I would like to use right now would be my 7.62x38r, 40, 9x18, 9x19, 45acp and maybe 7.65x25.

Unfortunately it's Fred's. I rarely say negative things about local gun shops but I have no use for that place or their little attitudes. Just my opinion.

Where's the like button  Got a couple of good deals at their fire sale then bought a gun when they were at the other location in LaPlata. Told me I had to purchase a barrel lock from them even though I had one for the particular caliber. I won't be going back.
