Winchester ammunition contract

I read that Winchester has a new contract to supply small arms ammunition to the government. Do you think this will impact their ability to make ammo for the commercial market? I don't see how this will improve the ammo situation we have now.

The contract to the government will probably last beyond the current panic buying by the public. Depending on the scheduling specified in the contract any leftover capacity will go for commercial sales. Business Administration 101.

This is not a new thing. They have had this contract for a while.

and is the third consecutive second source contract Olin Winchester has received.

Besides $37 million isn’t much. At current prices I could fit $37 million of 5.56 in my car and still not exceed its cargo rating.

Winchester's big government ammunition contract involves them running the Lake City arsenal that Federal used to run for the government. It will not consume their own manufactured ammunition from their own factories, but their government contracts will have to be honored.
