Most of them (especially the favorable ones) will never even get a vote in the committee, the bills just spend the rest of their life in a desk drawer. There is no set schedule for whether or not a bill is voted on in the committee, you can check history on the mgaleg web site under the particular bill number to find current status.

So why the two days of Dog and Pony show? I suspect all the public testimony is nothing more than for the MGA to feign they are working for us, and the opportunity for their unwashed subjects to release some steam.

    Juuuuust over the line
I think it's somewhere in Maryland law that every bill has a public hearing, but no real mandate for action beyond that.

I'm sure someone more astute than I wll be along at some point with a cite.

    That's my understanding as well.

Bills, once heard in Committee, have no guarantee of anything beyond a desk drawer.

In MD, the ones that advance are 90+% likely to be establishment approved.

They know they have a problem. Remember last year the capital gazette criticized the legislature for engaging in lawmaking that was more symbolic than effective. We can hope that still stings.

That is why we are not done with this sign yet...

They might as well pass these. Once they Sh*tcan the HPRB, there will be less permits "on the streets" regardless. What better way as well to stifle those in the training business from shafting naive students. It is clearly on record that one such company trained people, then actively took part in denying permits. :sad20:

    Somewhere in MD
Both HB0891 and HB1036 were read on the floor this afternoon as Favorable and were then "Special Ordered to the appropriate time" by Democrat members of the House. Need to contact your legislators to express your thoughts on the bills. You can find your legislators contact information by using the http://mdelect.net tool (enter your address, it will tell you who represents you in the various houses (state and federal)).

Wont do any good if you cant get a permit in the first place.

Sometimes if you can't attack directly, weaken the flanks.

Even if the Supreme Court holds G&S schemes unconstitutional, it's unlikely to hold permitting itself as unconstitutional.

I'd much rather see us chip away at the excessive requirements, so when G&S is struck down, the objective requirements are easier to met.

    Response from my delegate:

I am a socialist prick who wants to be unelected very soon. Not only am I fighting Hogan on fiscal common sense, I voted to give Frosh the power to sue Trump and waste taxpayer dollars and risk Federal funding. I do not have an opinion on this bill yet but I will do whatever Mike and Mike decide.
