My money says a Russian "lost" it to a Fin. Then the rifle was [SA] stamped.

Where did Brian get the Finns from? Just curious as 28/30s rarely see light of day anymore. Most are buried deep into collections.

28/30 was just a transfer from an online sale. Some Finn Capture 91/30ís came out of a local collection where he got them from.

Hey, great to see you again! This was something I knew you'd find interesting knowing that you appreciate a battle worn example.

Very nice find!! Very cool!

OBTW - it's not called shrapnel. Shrapnel is an older design before the discovery of high explosives (HE). Post WWI and forward it's called fragments from fragmenting shells using high explosive. Shrapnel are little balls of metal inside a shell. Fragmentary shells explode into fragments (as do modern hand grenades). It's like mixing magazine and clip. They are not the same. Here is a reference. https://history.army.mil/faq/shrapnel.htm Sorry if I sound like a dick, but being an Army vet that really makes me cringe.

And the Finnish Mosins are supposed to be better made than the Russian ones.
