I have used all of the US manufactured primers and have no problems with any of them. The biggest thing is that you have to have them seated deeply enough.

For years Federal were the only ones that worked in revolvers with light hammer springs, but since Winchester changed from nickle to brass they should work in them too.

I am selling primers at $30/1000 if you need some.

As you can see Im very new here. Im just getting into reloading so based off of your post why would one wish to stockpile primers?

Also as a primer stockpiler...what quantity would that constitute? Im guessing you are talking in the neighborhood of 10k or so is that right?

    Thanks,

    Ipc

CCI and Winchester interchangeably for SP & LP, depending on what's in stock. I buy at Gander Mountain & Bass Pro in PA, VA, and MD. Prices seem to be about the same, with CCI a few dollars less expensive. So far they all have seated fine and have had no FTF. I use a Dillon XL650 for .45 ACP/GAP & 9mm.

Wolf/Tulammo primers have worked really well for me. No FTF's yet after a few thousand. You just need to seat the primer fully, that's all. And they're still remarkably affordable, though the price is gradually going up on them, too.

However many you get depends on however much shooting you're planning on doing over the next couple of years. As pcfixer said, "buy it cheap, stack it deep." Brand doesn't really matter for the load itself unless you're running max loads.
